You're talking about a lad who isn't fit. That doesn't make him a "bad" player, it makes him one who isn't fit enough to be playing yet. Labelling him the worst you've seen in 50 years or whatever is ridiculous on that basis. He isn't an unknown quantity, we've seen plenty of him in the PL and while he isn't a world beater by any means (or good enough to make our XI for that matter), in terms of actual ability he's miles ahead of some of the wasters we've had down the years. This massive overreaction is simply down to the fact that he's miles and miles away from being fit enough to play.

Angell, Niasse, Sandro, Stracqualursi, Chadwick, Spencer, etc - all instantly spring to mind as worse players. The only thing they had going for them over Rondon is that they were fit. Rondon isn't, not even close to it. That's about it.
All those players at least had the good sense to keep themselves fit
Rondon has been training on his own for 4 months
That’s enough time to get himself fit enough to last 90 mins of putting an effort in
I’ve no issue with a lack of sharpness but I have an issue with a lad on 30/40 k a week that won’t run tackle or worry defenders while showing off his pearly whites
It’s unprofessional to say the least

Harsh all this stuff - The lad has been training by himself for 4 months, which would be a struggle for him to get up to speed anyway, but he's also been in China for 2 years before that and that in itself would have probably meant that it took a little time to get back up to speed anyway. We knew he wasn't fit, yet everyone is kicking off about the fact that he isn't fit. He was bought as a plan C striker - 20 mins off the bench as a target man etc. DCL and Richarlison are ahead of him in the pecking order. Neither Benitez nor Rondon would have expected him to be starting games this early. He would have been allowed to build up fitness without us noticing too much. Unfortunately he's had to start 3 games in 8 days because of injuries when he isn't really in the condition to start any games yet. The bright side for me is that I thought he was better on Saturday than he was against QPR or Villa. Do I want him starting games? No, of course not, I want him for what he was presumably brought in for - to be the "lump it to the big man" option we might occasionally need off the bench from time to time, and I'm sure he'll do alright at that. He's miles away from being match fit - Benitez knew that when he brought him in, just have to be patient and accept that the scenario we've found ourselves in where he is having to play is a really unlucky one and has probably cost us some points.

Utter nonsense.

With a proper scientifically worked out programme, physio`s and a sports science team, you could get virtually anyone of his age, with a base level fitness and no injuries, up to lasting ninety minutes in four months, without them looking like they`ve been running through a car wash for ninety minutes.

He clearly has a very low level of base fitness ( look up what that means ), so he`s almost starting from scratch.

Which means he`s had his feet up for months.

I`ve seen lads playing in the Zingari with a much better level of fitness than him.

At least limited players like the Straq, had the drive, desire and sheer commitment, to overcome their short comings.

Even that lump, Akinfenwa would offer more.

Absolute garbage

So is that the argument, he's the worst centre forward you've ever seen for us because he isn't fit?

so with no preseason behind him, you expected him to go straight in and impress then? No grace period, no allowances, just 'hang on, he's not fit!'
I wonder why clubs bother with six weeks preseason, cos according to you, it[s totally unnecessary. All you need is your 'programme' and you're good to go.

No Kev, you’ve missed the point massively…..again.

He should have a level of fitness and not be dripping in sweat like a priest surrounded by alter boys

he does have a level of fitness, that's why he's just done three games in a week. He's just not match fit. That's gonna take a few more weeks. I mean, this isn't rocket science. This is why we have a preseason.

Can't play on Saturday surely, might get away with it against the likes of Norwich but certainly wouldn't against better teams like United. Watching him on Saturday every time we broke out usually through Gray or Dacoure he was constantly jogging on the shoulder of the defender basically making himself unavailable for a pass. No attempt made to drop off or create any angles. Even appeared to have no energy to jump for any headers, certainly don't recall him winning any. Take the points about match fitness but he doesn't even look remotely fit. Happy to be proved wrong but just can't see it.

Remember when Rooney returned from his first off season with a skin head and 15 pounds of McDonalds bulk......

Took him weeks to get right. Moyes was partly at fault for that by telling him to enjoy himself..... Completely underestimated how much weight he could throw on.

This is a 32 year old who hasnt played in months. He will be fine.

Not at all.

If you read my post properly, there’s nowhere I say that he should’ve been at the stage, where he’s fully match fit.

What I do question is the fact is that his level of fitness, very obviously isn’t even at the basic starting point for being on the pitch.

Know one expected him to be fully match ready. But at the same time no one expected him to be waddling around like a 40 a day park footy player.

Like I’ve said before, other, fitter, washed up cart horses where available.
