Okay lets break it down

LEAGUE

- Open, fast game of movement, symmetry and big hits.
- Simplified rules and tackle count for even and understandable play.
- All Action. Game hardly ever takes a breather.
- Professionals
- World Game
- Games hinge on sublime skills and movement
- Played by Working Class Heroes

UNION

- Stop/Start game of piley uppeys
- Rules so complicated they were drafted by the Lawyers and Solicitors the Players grow up to become.
- More like a Masonic ritual played by Sadistic Groks
- Amateurs
- White Boy Game
- Games hinge on Obscure Interpretation of Bizarre Rules
- Played by Freemasons

missed something.

Union is Tory to League's Labour. Republican to Democrat. Union is the biggest and dumbest of the Snidey Uber Rich while League is the grassroots Working Class. Union is to Dishonesty with their scrumming, kicking all the time and a time keeping system that makes no sense. If the two games were on the Monopoly board Union would be Park Lane and League would be The Angel Islington. Do you bow to the wealthy elitists or do you mix in with the common man?

Are we the Peoples club? Or are we the dirty Kopites?

So, a vote for Union, is a vote for Thatcherism, Communism and The worst bits of Capitalism. It's a nod to Evil.

A vote for League is a warm glow sprinkled on your conscience. Your ticket to an everlasting, much loved Soul.

Tell them that down in the valleys pal

The only union I'll watch is whoever the All Blacks are battering

as a game even on an amateur level it's League...I can't get my head round the fact that one of the key factors in Union is deliberately booting the ball to the opposition.

Widnes - shafted by the money men

Go the Warriors.

It's a sport of the people though Macca

Macca, like the rest of the Aussies, are just massive league fans because their union team is possibly worse than Scotland's.

I think you'll find that Widnes initially shafted themselves with contracts during that spell of domination. The fact that they were out of Superleague due to their mismanagement is more their own fault than anyone elses.

They were "Shafted" by the fact that the Superleague allowed 2 'Franchise' teams in with no promotion from the lower division, and no relegation for a couple of seasons. They weren't the only ones though btw. it happened twice to Leigh after a completely new stadium had been built to meet Superleagues criteria, 1st time they wouldnt allow them up they then lost their players so had to start again from scratch, then when they were in the position again the new teams were allowed in.
Leigh & Widnes were the 2 teams to lose out, but Leigh have the added burden of being in the Wigan Borough & Wigan council happy to see them go out of business, Imagine Widnes becoming a part of Warrington and how much of a stuff Warrington would give about the 'Chemics.'

The fact that when asked who was the greatest player ever to play at 'Twickers' was, the answer given instantly was Alex Murphy (1 game RAF v Army during Nat. Service) says it all really, League Players have always been able to step straight into a game of Union whereas for the most part it isn't true in the opposite direction.
For Example Inga the Winger leaves All Blacks to sign for Wigan, leaving as their record try scorer that basically nobody could stop with the ball in his hands, he spent next 3-4 months losing about 5 stone and getting himself fit enough to play League.

Inga was a belter of a player though. As I said in another thread recently, I saw Matt Stevens the other day outside Waterloo station. Didn't look like a pro athlete whatsoever. Big ol' belly on him.
