one bad half? he stunk in the entire match v stoke - i was there. just because he had 4 shots at goal and the media were saying that big sam would be impressed by his mom display is ridiculous - if we had not won that match he would have been villified for his misses. He can't trap a ball, he can't pick a pass, in fact he passes it straight to the opposition sometimes and sets up their attacks.

barkley has great talent but seemingly less rigor. to me, he doesn't seem particularly reflective as a player.
I think that's the core reason his decision making is still terrible, he seems to struggle to recognize situations in-game. I think he's fairly instinctual, which is what let's him pull off those marvelous turns and miraculous counters-- honestly, in part because they make no sense to attempt half the time-- but fails him in more basic instances of "how do I work a through ball" or "am I telegraphing this pass"

I do think he's a confidence player at the moment, but if he has any chance to being a long term foundational player for us and england he's got to overcome this, find consistency, and-- more importantly-- learn how to learn

Think it's just a balance thing, he's just had a manager who'd let him play with complete freedom and would claim everything to be phenomenal. He could probably use some tougher love, obviously not Moyes levels of it. Just somewhere in between what he's had under his previous two managers.
Perhaps Moyes was right not to rush him into the first team as he could see his weakness in certain area's. Unfortunately for Ross, Martinez was his mentor for the last 3 years

don't see how martinez negatively impacted barkley at all. was probably the right manager at the right time for him as an individual
