How to deflect criticism from the media darlings that play for shoite, United, city, etc....

The daily mirror gave rooney 6 out of 10 for an abject display, terrified they won't get an interview or comment in the upcoming season, yet perfectly happy to throw a young lad under the bus to placate the screaming hordes of xenophobic middle englanders baying for a scapegoat.

Prove them all wrong Ross lad and destroy the league next season, were all behind you mate ;)

Also all this gumpf about uncle Roy being a dignified man. The old git is nothing but a bully, has been pictured screaming abuse at Ross for having the temerity to try and take players on in previous games, yet let's his favourites constantly play however they want with no recriminations. Reminds me a lot of Brendan Rodgers berating Sterling in that "This is liverpool" documentary, attacking him because he was young and naive, bad cowards the pair of em!

It's that kind of deep player analysis that makes Collymore such a mover and shaker in the current Manager/DoF market, of course.

BARKLEY ACCUSED OF HAVING 'NO FOOTBALL BRAIN' AFTER ENGLAND'S EURO 2016 EXIT

Former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Stan Collymore claims coaches have told him that the Everton midfielder lacks the tactical ability to be a world-class player

Former England striker Stan Collymore claims that coaches who have worked with Ross Barkley believe that the midfielder does not have a ‘football brain’.

The 22-year-old didn’t play a single minute of England’s failed Euro 2016 campaign as Roy Hodgson’s side crashed out following a 2-1 defeat to Iceland on Monday evening.

Barkley’s career was accused of becoming stagnant under Roberto Martinez at Everton, but Collymore suggests that the midfielder’s tactical nous isn’t good enough at the highest level
.

“I’ve heard from coaches who’ve worked with him for a number of years at all levels that he’s got talent but no football brain that can adapt to differing situations on the pitch,” Collymore wrote in his column for
Boylesports

“In other words it’s all off-the-cuff and when that doesn’t work then he becomes a liability. Damning, but perhaps true that while [Raheem] Sterling and [Jack] Wilshere were getting games despite poor fitness and form Barkley wasn’t doing enough in training to depose them.

“That should work the lad, so let’s hope Ronald Koeman is the man to make his the talent and football mind that we all expect
.”

It's a real shame they don't use newspapers to wrap fish and chips in any more

Unbe-'kin-leavable.

Yet

Woy uses Barkley in training as the nearest thing to a world class player/Bale in style. This Bale must be really poor if the nearest thing we have to him can't get any minutes.

I think Stan is right, how many times have we seen Ross make a run, no one cant stop him but at the same time he can see ahead of him a great chance to pass to someone in a far more dangerous area but he dosent see it? Other players have the vison but not the ability, combine the two and he can be dangerous, I just hope Koeman can add something to his game as if he does Ross is going to be a hell of a player.

He does though, maybe need to learn to see/do the simple things instinctively (and the instinctive things simply) like a boxer learning combinations, the cause and effect things, those recurring happenings that, if you see them often enough will maybe ring a bell, as in, given situation 'A' most players react 'thus'...so do this...a much maligned phrase - the percentage ball.

If we're still having this debate in 3 yrs, it might be guilty as charged

Superb!

If Stan is correct then surely he would have played all four games at the Euro's - sort of like the new Theo Walcott, 43 England caps and definitely confirmed as not having a football brain

It's an easy article to write really, blames Barkley for having no footballing brain but then in the last sentence covers himself by suggesting it would be Koeman who's unlocked his talent if he starts playing well.

Collymore is partly correct but which English footballers have a 'football brain'? None. They all rely too much on the manager to give them instructions during a game. Where are the Peter Reid's of this world that can read a game and adapt, cajole and give leadership on the pitch. Barkley suffers as much as any English player from not being able to read the game, something instilled in young players in this country, and it is interesting that Collymore doesn't name any English player Barkley should look at for an example. Sterling and Lallana run down blind alleys and don't know when to give the ball and when to dribble for example.

Collymores job is football. How many times has he watched Barkley play this is a very dangerous statement he has hidden behind the opinion of an unamed source.

Ross has a fantastic football brain & i beleive often suffers as those around him aren't quite at his level.

I would however concede that he does look to be lacking defensively particulalry when tracking runners in & behind him. However this to me looks to be be in part responsible to coaching & being asked to perform a specific role.

The argument will be settled soon enough he will inevitably be playing with better players & have a better manager so there will be no excuses.

tbf without having spoken to any of his coaches I do sometimes wonder if Ross is a little slow on the uptake. Massively talented footballer though.

Timing of this is an utter joke, yeah criticise the engl;ish players who didn't actually play, shame cos if Barkley would have been really tactically adept and such then he could have put a masterclass on like Ali and Sterling did amongst others.

Collymore should go back to slapping woman around, was always better at that than football anyway

Ross doesn't have a footballing brain, but Sterling does?
Sterling's game is run fast at defenders, what tactical nous does that involve?

lollol

Considering he "doesnt have a footballing brain" he sure out performed some of the other players in the England team over the course of last season, considering his goals and assists last season i worry about the state of the rest of them when they didn't come close to him.
