Roberto Martinez discussion

So, Spurs out. Three days after they had to travel to Italy in the Europa League.

In the time they haven't played in Europe, they've been on fire... Let's see if they keep up this run in the league.
Hopefully not, but to be where they are having already competed in the EL is commendable and seeing as this is the Martinez thread I can help but think you are trying to compare the two managers when facing Fixture congestion. It also seems you're potentially writing them of or at least hinting at it after 2 adverse results yet supporting Martinez who was utterly abject for the first 7 months of last season, you big hypocrite.

Not sure if it's been posted on here yet but the Echo article had some interesting quotes from RM.

Said that he felt the first half we were really poor on the ball and was disappointed but in the second half kicked on.

So as a side does that a-pease some of the fans that want him to be a bit more 'self' critical (which for me he has been numerous times in saying the team needs to be better in small margins etc).

Genuine question, because I think we can all safely say yesterday wasn't one of our best displays this season.

No not at all mate just pointing it out.

Spurs have done brilliantly, but I'm pretty sure if you look at the major up turn in form it coincides with when they ended the group stages in the EL, and it genuinely is gonna be interesting if they can keep it up in the league if they also progress in Europe.

I put it in here because of, like you said, the comparisons that have been made between the two managers and squads - though it could/probably should have gone in world football.

No....but if he pipes right down without saying one of yesterday's players is world class for a few days that would do me.

We were crap yesterday but we won and winning is what makes me happy and doesn't ruin my day/evening.

Keep winning games and Boberto will have lots of friends again.

Oh Christ... You didn't get my sarcasm.

Only one thing worse than someone stuck too far to one side or the other is those fence hoppers, who were OUT after City IN after Stoke and OUT again after WBA. The 40 odd of them know who they are, This thread needs consistency.

I just think today's a great day for the cult to get together in this thread and mix a bit of goading whilst wondering exactly what Goat is going on about.

You need days like this, it renews your belief.

Who are these posters? Name and shame!

What's more important to you Qman, the performance or the result?
I'd take a 1-0 backs against the wall win everytime if it meant we won games. My point is for all the possession we have we don't do enough with it, and our play is very predictable. Martinez is always going on about how talented a squad we have, but if he doesn't buck his ideas up he will lose a lot of them.

The thing is, we've won four of the last five (and the one we lost we dominated but yeh we didn't get over the line) yet he's still being accused of not changing things, or getting lucky.

Luck plays a huge part in football and yesterday it went our way with the opener - compared to WBA where it definitely didn't.

4 clean sheets from the last five in all comps.

If we just do league, as it's then level playing field, it's 4 clean sheets in 8 and 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses from the turn of the year - which I've said before for me was when I saw the obvious shift from RM to try and be more solid while still sticking to our basic principles which see us score the goals and play the nice togger.

Obviously there's been slip ups (Swansea, WBA, that 2 minutes of madness at Chelsea) - but in terms of the goals conceded it hasn't been so much a huge fault in tactics as players switching off (McCarthy and Rom v WBA, Jags and Howard v Chelsea etc.). So that's why I say things are looking like they've changed and the facts back that up.

Litmus test is obviously gonna be Villa, hopefully we can keep up this form and hammer them.
