Roberto Martinez discussion

It should have suited us to be 2 0 up and punish them on the counter but we looked lethargic. Im as gutted as you mate and hope it acts as a kick up the arse. We'll need to be at it for the full game v boro
We can't defend though, so I don't understand the territory concession. Rom was only just short of finishing it like

2-0 is an awkward scoreline. Always has been, always will be. Especially early in the game. Another goal and it's over, but the urgency to go all out for it isn't there. Only the title focussed teams in their pomp can do it. They're that single minded and deadly. Getting pulled back to 2-1 was the key moment. So late on in the game and knowing we were vulnerable to an equaliser.

That said, I also believe we got ahead of ourselves and were mentally preparing for Tuesday a bit early.

It cant be underlined enough though:

7th
Unbeaten in 5
3 losses in 14 games
Scoring 14 in the last 4 games
A win away from the SFs of a cup

...bigger picture and all that.

Young players who will learn from results like today

Maybe they got a bit cocky and stopped working as hard as they did in the first halve

I'm sure Martinez and the team will take a massive lesson from this game

If we compare how hard we worked at 2-0 up in the Soton game to today it's night and day. Hopefully lessons are learned

All this talk of a young side learning but Spurs have a young side of Kane, Alli, Dier etc. and will be 6 points ahead if they win chelsea tomorrow despite the added games of the Europa being contended with.

I think it's poor defensive organisation that costs us. Alongside the fact despite Barry and Kone being decent this season, the leagues becoming more quicker/need for athleticism (look at Leicester) when you have a 34 year old covering the defence and a 32 year old out on the wing shielding a 19 year old lad playing out of position you always run the risk of being done.

The third goal is always the most important imo. Two nil is such a dangerous lead. Hopefully the young players will learn from it.

How much have spurs spent on that side and your moaning they might be 6 points ahead of us
