relative media coverage

For Sky and Bt having LFC on TV enables them to package the coverage and sell to the Far East, China and America. It is in Sky's and Bt's commercial interest to get UTD and LFC on TV, that way they hope to recoup their outlay. That is why they are both desparate for LFC to get into Champions League so they can sell their games for more money. They have a vested interest in LFC doing well and this translates in mass coverage on Sky and Talksport. This also is prominent on MOTD. In a way it is not the relative media coverage that is the problem but how the football agenda is set and what is being promoted as THE talking point this or that week.

Basically this. Vince McMahon (owner of WWE) lives by the mantra "good for business"... which is what Sky, BBC etc do. Those two teams have the biggest fanbase both domestically and abroad, so they promote them more. Over 90k in Melbourne watched lfc in a preseason game, similarly United get a huge following wherever they go. If any media outlet started showing more Stoke, Newcastle or any team outside the four or five "glamour" clubs the viewing figures would nosedive. I do find it nauseating whenever a game at the pit is on tv as the build up routinely harps on about Anfield, Kop, atmosphere, flags etc etc and has extensive shots of the Shankly gates, Anfield sign etc etc. I cant recall any other ground that has anywhere near as much focus on it.. every game shows the teams going down the tunnel and hones in on the sign. They peddle the "theatre of dreams" Line at OT and show the banners etc. The media bias is there, but it's all business.

Has anyone else noticed how terrible BT are at picking their live games? Our away game at Old Trafford wasn't broadcast live, they instead chose Swansea v Newcastle. What's all that about? The other week they chose not to show the Tyne-Wear derby in favour of West Ham v Swansea. They've got the Champions League next season, imagine that. Picking CSKA Moscow v Viktoria Plzen over Bayern Munich v Real Madrid

He caught him on the shin after failing to reach the ball, it was a stonewall penalty. The only reason it wasn't given was because Mark Clattenburg was the referee.

Honestly, you should know the difference between blatant dives and actual penalties given who your star striker is. Even your club legend Jamie Carragher acknowledged it was a blatant pen.

I don't blame the ref for the result as we should have put it to bed anyway, but that was anything but a "half hearted" penalty shout.

I've seen them given but there is no denying that Coleman was going down beforehand and if you look at the reactions of the players, it's clear that nobody was particularly livid at it being waved away.

As you quite rightly said, you can't blame the ref because if we had put away our chances as we should have, as you MUST in these six pointers, then that decision wouldn't have mattered half as much as it did.

Not nearly as bad as picking their pundits! Michael Owen has got to be the worst co commentator ever and then you can add in the unbiased comments of James and mcmanaman. Mourinho was right about one thing recently, when he spoke of the bias to the RS in the media.

They cared enough when they were banging on about the so called Baines dive. It´s a game a circus on and I quite honestly are glad we are not under the spot light 24~-7.With the spot light comes pressure. The way they twisted bobbys words today for example, we´d love to win the league has turned into Everton believe they can win the league----Shadows and lighting .

It doesnt bother me. Dont need Sky, BT, or a newspaper to tell me what to think about footie/Everton.

Lets face it, Moyes at Utd, Jose soundbites, RS beating Arse 5-1, and the title challenge by Citeh are all a lot more interesting to football fans in general than what we are getting up to.

On a similar note, parts of Somerset have been underwater for 6 weeks plus. Been on the news this last few days. The Thames threatens to flood a few properties in Berkshire tonight, HEADLINE news.

Spot on fella.

Totally agree mate, I was watching that in the Oak and most Blues wanted Coleman red carded for diving in fact.

You are missing the point mate.

It has nothing to do with highlighting what you/we think of Everton it is to do with the extra money and exposure it generates for our rivals.

I cannot believe the amount of people on here who appear not to care. - More fool you 'cos it will be the undoing of many a great club and the making of many a glory seeking bunch of whoppers in the end.

On the general discussion in this thread, many are missing the point that the principal reason the RS/Utd/Arsenal etc have the media commercial interest is precisely because past and present media coverage is biased towards the successful clubs. With financial resources of clubs now predominantly coming from TV payments and not gate money, this bias has become self reinforcing, and is getting much much worse every season. I don't doubt that if we were to ever start winning things we'd then be on the other side of the fence. But with this circular actuality of money chasing success and success then being reinforced by media coverage to make the break through is becoming next to impossible.

Isn't nearly every one of our away games on the box between now and the end of the season?

Maybe with us beginning to be more media friendly and certainly easier on the eye to watch, the tide is turning.
