relative media coverage

It was a six pointer v Spurs - and unfortunate things happened we lost in an awful way we should have had one point or at least 3 points us and the ref seen to that!

You can't blame the ref for the Spurs result, we stuffed Spurs in the opening half hour and didn't take our chances. Spurs out away their best chance and that's how these matches are decided. If you are referring to the penalty call in injury time, that was a half hearted shout in desperation, it's not like it was nailed on and you could see that from the reaction of the players.

He caught him on the shin after failing to reach the ball, it was a stonewall penalty. The only reason it wasn't given was because Mark Clattenburg was the referee.

Honestly, you should know the difference between blatant dives and actual penalties given who your star striker is. Even your club legend Jamie Carragher acknowledged it was a blatant pen.

I don't blame the ref for the result as we should have put it to bed anyway, but that was anything but a "half hearted" penalty shout.

The only tv pundits who dont make me wanna hurl the remote and seem to at least gives us a fair opinion on us without snide little belittling would be Keown, Merson, Savage and bizarrely Carragher

Former two being former arsenal mean they are clear of the rs are boss mentality that purveys the rest as well

.

It was a penalty as there was contact & he didn't get anywhere near the ball.

However, I think the reason it wasn't given is that Coleman appeared to have lost his footing just before the contact was made. As he was already stumbling when he was caught

.....the reds will always be in TV demand because they have a massive global following. Companies milk that support with wholesale coverage and favourable comments from a host of ex-players. Its money, its business.

For Sky and Bt having LFC on TV enables them to package the coverage and sell to the Far East, China and America. It is in Sky's and Bt's commercial interest to get UTD and LFC on TV, that way they hope to recoup their outlay. That is why they are both desparate for LFC to get into Champions League so they can sell their games for more money. They have a vested interest in LFC doing well and this translates in mass coverage on Sky and Talksport. This also is prominent on MOTD. In a way it is not the relative media coverage that is the problem but how the football agenda is set and what is being promoted as THE talking point this or that week.

It sums these refs up when Coleman was denied a blatant penalty at Goodison against them for being too honest, and then was punished for being "dishonest" in Clattenburg's biased mind on Sunday as he was already reaching for the ball. Still doesn't change the fact that he was fouled both times. But this is Everton and we don't get the important 50/50 decisions that clubs like Spurs and Liverpool do.

The Champions of England struggling under a new manager and being 7th is a huge huge story in English football.

Vastly more significant and interesting than the 6th best team in the country continuing to be 6th.

A few responses to points ive seen:

- we aren't seen as being in the race for 4th because we're in this position every year and drop off the pace every time. and that's what we're doing now - they are perfectly justified based on what has happened most years since 2005. This will change if we push a bit harder this season

- I think putting us on against the bigger teams in recent years is probably the best thing for us. Again, this season aside, the majority of the last few years we've been dire at times. Why would we want to see Everton vs Fulham etc? at least we were making a decent show of ourselves against the big teams and the poor "grind out a result" football we played against ALL teams was at least justified against a decent team.

Honestly it got to the point where I didnt want to watch us anymore (obviously i did) in certain games so why would anyone else want to?

- Unfortunately, the reason we get so much Sky money is because the clubs people want to watch bring the majority of the revenues in. Basically they are paying for the rest of us and we there to make up the numbers (with our own little narrative at times too which is more than some other teams).

Honestly, it angers me loads but we actually rely on those teams now. They could just go to a european super league and make even more money. Liverpool and United could negotiate separate TV deals like in Spain, make loads and loads and the share Sky pay would be much much less to be shared between the rest of us

The barriers to such things are going to be very thin now, and held up by tradition and not much else. One day they will disappear and the rest of us will be in some trouble if modern football doesnt sort itself out soon

This is part of the reason why I'll never subscribe to BT Sports. It may as well be called 'kopite tv'. Straight up bull.

I don't have to subscribe as such because as a BT Infinity customer I receive their football coverage at no extra cost.

I have been taken aback at how naff the whole BT operation is.

The build up and what passes for "analysis" is unwatchable and the commentaries on the matches are borderline unlistenable thanks to Michael Owen's dirgelike tones.

THIS!!

BT feeding the kopite cause only makes them more popular. Most of the kids in my sons class support the sh1te, not because they are any good or have been recently but because their dads do. If they were not on every possible weekend the kids would not have nearly so much interest.

Basically, it makes them stronger and us weaker yet they do not deserve nearly as much coverage and we deserve a lot more.

It is fine for you all to remain ambivalent about the whole thing but it is to our detriment.

Look, even if we won the league then the following CL and repeated it for the next 24 years, the RS and UTD will still be on the telly before us.........
