Transfer Rumour Reinier Jesus

I suspect that we were not a million miles away from Zaha or Doucoure. I am sure both would have come as well if we'd have played the negotiations game better/ earlier/ took a slightly bigger financial hit with their current clubs. It's frustrating that we are so close at times and don't grasp the chance... such is life. Zaha in Everton would have added an extra dimension to our attack (probably at the expense of my beloved Bernard, sob) and would frighten quite a few defences. Doucoure would have strengthened our midfield up considerably with Gana going and Gblammo out. Definitely entering top 6 territory, and from there it's just a couple of results to the good for us and a couple to the bad for a few others and you're in 4th.

Such is life. I would however be more than delighted if the likes of Reinier represented the current recruitment policy of Everton- young talented players who are keen to make a name for themselves, who can either be moved on at profit or kept a hold of to push us on.

Big Sam though... Uggggh.

People don't like to admit it but we cocked up massively this transfer window.

Lets hope in January we can right some wrongs and still be in and around the top 6 to give it a really good go in the 2nd half of the season.

Need a CB and an experienced striker at the bare minimum

Yep as much as I wanted Docoure/Zaha I would 100% sacrifice bringing one of them in if it meant us throwing big money at a top striker to rotate with Kean who imo isnt ready just yet.

I keep banging the drum but we massively missed the boat on Haller - he will be another Payet minus being a disruptive bell.

Imagine the crosses from Digne and Gylfi landing on the lads bonce he would have scored a hatful here.

There was obviously a reason why we didn’t want him. Because at first he turned West Ham down.

And I’m not sure silva wants that target man type centre forward, haller is a bit better than just a target man. But I think he wants that pacey number 9 and someone that can make things happen on his own, which seems to fit with Kean.

And if silva wanted a 6”3 target man and then to bombard him with crosses, he wouldn’t have bought Richarlison, Bernard and Iwobi

The fact that we didn't do a few bits of business because of a few small margins shows the fine line that the likes of Brands has to operate at. In his first summer, it all worked out well enough, but it didn't this year.

I ain't sure that January will be a big window for us, but if we are up in contention for the top 6 (or dare I hope the top 4) - maybe the purse strings will be loosened and we'll be in an attractive position for enticing players.

So do you really think we had a poor summer window?

No we dont.

How can you say in September?

Currently joint 4th.
If you were in Brands or Silva's shoes right now, what positions would you want to reinforce as a priority?

I'd say CB in case one of Keane or Mina had to have time out, and a striker to offer him something else over Kean and DCL (I don't think Tosun or Niasse are really in their plans).

I'd also add, that if Gblammo doesn't look like coming back from injury to be in contention for playing until late on in the season, that this position also needs a rethink.

I think it was ok, but not much more. Maybe in time, the players that came in will prove it to be a brilliant window - I sure hope so! However there's plenty to be critical of if you want to be, but I don't chose to worry over it.

I suspect that some of deals fell through due to a gap between our and the selling clubs terms (Watford and Palace) that we could have bridged if we had wished, but weren't prepared to compromise on. This approach may well have long term positive consequences if other teams know we aren't pushovers (I know this is all just supposition on my part).

Again it worked with Barca last year, didn't come off this year. I wasn't overly worried about Zaha or Doucoure but I can see how a front 3 of Zaha, Richy and Kean could potentially be devastating to opposition defences - and Doucoure I think may show more here than he does at Watford in a better team and under a better coach (swipe at Watford is definitely intended!).

All this is with hindsight, and knowing full well that I'm not likely to ever be in charge of transfers at a premier league football club so can revel in the position of criticising those that do!

CB was an obvious mistake on their part, maybe they still thought Zouma was a possibility late in the window, until Luis dropped his he wanted to leave bombshell, which was then the end of Zouma.

As for a striker, they probably would have only done something if tosun & niasse had gone. And I don’t think they would have spent much on a back up. Probably got someone in on loan or a 30 something player on a free.

And you can’t do anything about injuries, Gbamin was just bad luck, we have enough players to cover abs he’s already been out 3/4 weeks. So I would imagine he will be back and around the team before Christmas

Excellent post

Not a poor summer window ,but not as good as it could have been and not as good as Brands first.
I cant see Brands spending in January unless a player already on his list becomes available at a price he is willing to pay.
He ha stated previously that he does not like buying in January

I honestly dont know mate.

If the window was open now im sure they would probably be looking at a CB for sure, given Gmblammos injury and the possible reliability of Delph maybe a midfielder. Neither would be cheap.

I doubt they would be looking at a Striker tho.

I think both are reasonably happy with the job DCL does and Kean needs games and Tosun has very recently shown he knows where the net is.

But who knows what will happen in the next 2 months.

Gmblammo could get fit and cement a place, Delph could stay healthy, young TomTom could kick on.

Gibson could get a chance and show his quality.

My only point is that 2months is a long time in football, its enough time for somebody to make themselves a hero and more than enough time for them to become Everton enemy number 1.
One of Keane /Mina get injured/suspended we are left with Holgate /Gibson
Are you happy with that
Are you expecting Kean to play every game as a CF at the the age of 19
If not are you happy to have DCL as backup

Im reasonably happy with Gibson and Holgate as back up, personally would prefer either of them to Rojo, at least they both have an upside and room to improve.
I want Kean to play every single minute hes able, hes a very, very talented boy who just needs a goal and to find his feet.
Im happy with what DCL brings to the team.
