Nonsense, Rooney was a world class player and proved it over the course of his career. Just because England could never sort themselves out on the international stage doesn't mean he wasn't one of the best in the world

Rooney would have got into any team on the planet in his prime and as you say, that makes him world class. He did lose a little something from the Rooney we had tho, he was made and rounded into a more Complete player, a team player, and lost a little of his X factor imo. His attitude for the team contributed to this and I belive if he had been like Ronaldo and wanted it all about him he could have been more of a star. Saying that, if he ever moved to Barca or real he would have torn that league a new ass hole

I remember first seeing him in a really poor pre-season game at Shrewsbury. Rooney came on for the last 15 minutes or so and though he didn't score, he did everything but.
Never ever been so excited by any player on first view and of course he was just 16 at the time.

The best game I ever seen him play for us was 0-0 against Bolton. He was raw, powerful , aggressive , determined and on another day would have scored a hat trick. Doing flicks here and there, powerfull running , dribbles , tricks was insane how good he was at that age.

Where did I say Rooney wasn't world class? I said he was somebody that showed fantastic potential as a 17 year old, but that he never took the step up to become that "special" talent that Pele, Maradona, and Ronaldo were, and Messi still is. But at 17 you'd have put money on Rooney being the best of them.

I also said Mbappe hasn't taken the step up to that special level yet, but you can't deny the kid is already world class.
The fact that people are disappointed in Rooney only being a multiple time Premier League winner, CL winner, all time leading England and United scorer and one of the 15 best players probably of all time in the football league shows just how highly rated the man was as a kid. Yeah he isn't in the top 25 all time anywhere like people thought but he probably is in the top 100 which is still a phenomenal career.

This is exactly what Moshiri said he wanted Brands to do. Big transfer fees for amazing talent with relatively low wages so they can be moved on with ease. I'd love it if it comes off but don't see this one happening. It's a bit too ambitious.

He might not be as pretty on the eye both physically and in football terms as some of the greats like Zidane , Messi, Ronaldo , cristiano, maradonna, cruyff etc but there is always a place in any team for a player of Rooney’s quality. Powerful, aggressive goal scorer that works hard for the team and hates to lose. He also had that knack of producing in big games which all the greats do. Like you say he isn’t the greatest striker of all time , the real Ronaldo is, but he’s in the top 20 in his position and thats very impressive. He was also so good to watch could pull a bit of skill or a thundering volley out of nowhere and could just as easily get you out of your seat with a crunching tackle as he could with an over head kick. He was the best English players I have ever seen even including Gazza

I agree with the last part, I don't go back as far as Gazza, but I've seen bits and I rate Rooney higher as well. I find the criticism he gets to be weird overall.

That may well be true
All I’m saying though is that they have actually signed them. As yet we haven’t.
I’ve seen it so many times
Ps Harvey Elliot getting rave reviews tonight re first appearance
A Kopite pal raving about him after one appearance in a friendly. He may well be a special talent, but they did the same with Woodburn after a great debut in a league cup tie and look where he is now.

On the bench to start. I don't think he's making his debut in the second leg of a Libertadores tie but you never know I guess.
Yeah, that would be surprising. He was also on the bench last match for the first time in a 1st team game I believe in his career. Could be wrong.
