How did Everton do in this January’s window?

I gave it a 3 because we signed a player who can come into the first team squad. We needed a left back, a right back and a striker and didn't fill any of those positions so overall a disappointment. However the CEO told us in the summer that we weren't signing anybody in January so I'm unsurprised.

The days of Alan Harper filling in everywhere are long gone Eggs. We should have 2 specialist players for each position like every decent team in the league. I'm pleased for Armstrong and his future looks bright but he's filling gaps we shouldn't have except in an injury crisis.

….thats a different issue and one you’d hope we can eventually address but I do think it’s very useful to still have players with the versatility to cover a number of positions.

Thinking about the future, we could have a CM pool of Garner, Armstrong, Rohl, Iroegbunam KDH and Alcaraz. That is very decent from a quality and age perspective. CBs we have a pool of Branthwaite, O’Brien, Tarkowski and Keane to see us through the next few seasons. Dibling still to prove his effectiveness but we’ll have scope in wide positions if you add Ndiaye and George.

It leaves the long standing issue of strength in depth at full back and central striker. In the meantime, players like Sandy Brown, Alan Harper and Kevin Richardson still have a place in the modern game.

Tarkowski and Keane are both at the end of their careers and I'd hope we'd be looking for at least 1 if not 2 young centre halves although I see O'Brien and Branthwaite as our centre back pairing for the next 5 years. If George impresses I can see us signing him and selling or loaning out Dibling. I loved Harper and Richardson (too young for Sandy Brown) and the likes of James Milner have proved their versatility, but the modern game is so fast, non-specialist players tend to struggle, look at Szoboslai for the rs when they tried to play him at right back.

….the other thing to consider is who might come through from the Academy. Not an obvious CB, although I really like Will Tamen who hasn’t had the best start to his loan spell at Tranmere, George Finney on loan at Ayr possibly the best crosser of a ball from full back in the club.

I give it a 4.
We needed a RB and a CF when the window opened, then when Grealish got injured we needed a winger as well. Linked with loads of players, only brought a winger in. Still issues with RB and CF for me, but if we can only sign one player the winger was the one to go for, becasue we needed pace and creativity in attack and I think George can provide something there.
But it's still ridiculous that we haven't signed a first choice RB and only have 2 CF's at the club and with Mykolenko injured we will probably keep playing with 4 CB's across the back line.

Looking at the premier league in general not many teams brought significant players in, probably West Ham with 5 and they are fighting relegation, so you can understand that and Man City signed 2 key players, most of the other premier league teams had more players leaving than joining. But we have had this hangover of needing a RB for about 4 seasons and in the summer we went from 4 strikers to 2, which I think is too few.

The question I have is why we haven't signed 2 more players? Is it the PSR thing where really we cant spend until the summer? Is it the manager not wanting to add players, or not wanting to add players put forward by the recruitment team? Is it the board not wanting to invest?
