People have been arrested & convicted of religiously aggravated offences , nil by mouth say it’s Sectarian and even Paul Mcbride said so.

I understand some feel it isn’t , I understand some feel Fenian isn’t . In society it’s often best to let either those in a position to make the decision legally and dispassionately or actually even those the subject of the slur to decide if it’s offensive as we’ve done with many racist comments or actions in the past .

I don’t know the answer to be honest with you but given the religious and political connotations associated with the old firm I’m unsure it is the same as calling them the RS. Let’s be honest I’ve no real idea of the religious affiliations of anyone I go the game with unless I’ve been to a wedding or christening and the same with RS I know so it just doesn’t matter . To many , not all I’m sure , in Scotland it does.

And people have been acquitted of these charges too mate. It is impossible to connect a religious connotation to the word unless people want to be offended. Nil By Mouth are not some legal authority with jurisdiction, likewise Paul McBride. It's a bit of a bugbear of mine mate, in that I only see people choosing to be upset by that word. A bit like us being called 'bitters' by our friends from across the park.

But by the same token rangers fans will argue for fenian , you can’t have your cake and eat it ,Either be offended or not .

Lots of people say and particularly used to say “why are the black community offended by this “ or the “LGBT community ..” .. my point is if it can be deemed or considered offensive from a religious or sectarian point and Scotland wants to introduce legislation to tackle it then you can’t pick and chose what’s offends you as an individual. As it happens What little I know about that particular Law I happen to think it’s a car crash piece of legislation.

I did not use the term fenian whilst illustrating my point. I accept that the word fenian is exactly the same as the word Hun, in that people can choose to take offence if they so wish. Hun is not sectarian and neither is fenian. Hardly epic, but whatever you say.
Wrong again. You're not very good at this.

Celtic fans who for some absurd reason support the cowardly IRA will happily refer to themselves as Fenians.

Rangers fans, unless they are utterly stupid, won't call themselves Huns.

So the terms are not the same and never will be.

Is this whopper still going on? The fella who thinks it's acceptable to attack Evertonians for songs sun against Gerrard but won't here a bad word said against him.

It's time for you to go back to your bigoted Rangers boards mate, and join in the Gerrard love fest, you're sort are not welcome here or at Everton Football Club and never will be. As the song says, we'd launch every one of you into the Mersey if we had the chance.

Where are these "notorious bigots" at Ibrox, that's quite an odd statement to make and why do you think he gets sectarian abuse ? can you give me any examples or are you just making things up.

He called a Rangers fan an "Orange ba*tard" in Ashton Lane a few years ago and he was knocked unconscious and soiled his cacks.

"Knocked unconscious and soiled his kecks" like this is acceptable behaviour. Herein lies the voice of a man who still wants evidence that Gerrard is a lowlife. What I realise is, I could present you all sorts of evidence of his wrap sheet and it would be behaviour that was laudable in your bigoted, violent brain.

Stick to spaces with kopites whilst attacking opposing supporters mate. You'll be at home with them.

Rangers fans used to call Celtic fans Huns, due to their support of the Nazis during WWII.

Celtic fans call fans of Hearts, Rangers, Motherwell, Dundee and Kilmarnock Huns because they perceive their support to be Protestants and they use the word Hun as derogatory term with regards to the Royal Family.

I'm sorry hold on a minute, I'm losing track of your nonsense, when did Celtic support the Nazis?

You obviously know more about Gerrard than me, So maybe if you share some facts about him I will be able to give an informed opinion.

I'm not sure I would join in any song about having a party when someone dies, If you like to sing such songs them that says more about you I'm afraid.

I tell you what, why don't you go into Google, do your research and find out exactly what a scrote Gerrard is and why pretty much any Evertonian (and decent human being hates him)?

I'm not talking about me, I'm talking about songs sung by Evertonians. What does it say about Evertonians in your thick little head? Do you have a problem with Evertonians singing about Steven Gerrard?

I'm not good at this? If the terms 'hun' and 'fenian' are non sectarian, which I agree with, what is your argument here? Is it that Celtic aren't too worried about being called fenians, but the The Rangers fans are upset at being called Huns? What's your point William? On a side note, can we keep politics away from this exchange? Thank you

I've said that Celtic don't appear to be too bothered about being called fenians, and anyway it's not a religious term/sleight. My entire point here is that the The Rangers fans are construing a word to have a different meaning to it's actual one.

I think it’s an argument that goes around in circles people on both sides are offended by one and not the other and people think
Both are ok . The introduction of messy legislation certainly didn’t help .

I can’t put myself in the mindset of either side as to whether they’re genuinely offended or not but to be totally fair it’s rangers fans , certain courts , nil by mouth and other legal professionals that interpret it in that way .

there is some serious misunderstanding here if people think that the term 'fenian' doesn't mean catholic in its everyday use. i doubt very much that when i was often called a 'fenian b*stard' in my youth in NI that that those who said this were referring to the 19th century movement even though that is the origin of the name.

No mate, I understand all of that. However, the term itself does not mean Catholic per se. I'm not aware that anyone has been prosecuted solely for the use of that word?
