So will this reduce the strikes or does that rely on all the companies they're in dispute with settling too?
There will be strikes , but expect they will not go on milch longer.
Guards will get safeguarded , cleaners ect and lower grade staff will get a rise, station staff will basically get shafted, as I have suspected all along,
Get a deal, job gone vague promise of different role , and a massive pay cut.
Part time staff brought on and eventually all gone in a year or two.
As soon as this is put to a vote and it will do soon , I am voting then binning the Union.

What exactly do station staff do? I was heading out of Waterloo a few weeks ago and I reckon there must have been 20-30 employees just milling about in the gate area having a chat among themselves. Granted, I don't recall ever seeing such a blatant waste of resources at other stations.

Don't know at Waterloo mate.
But down here the do everything to keep the station going, all the different people that entails, police, security network rail ect, builders , water companies ect, sales security, assist the disabled, old people those that can't for one reason or another use technology. , all sorts that you don't see on paper like talking people around that are not in a good place, dealing with the effects of it if they go under a train and the bit that nobody ever mentions dealing with the families afterwards because they always come to see were it's happened.
All sorts of stuff.
It's finished to be brutally honest, been heading that way for years.

what's finished? Having staff at stations or the rail service in general?

They'll become no go zones, especially at night
Nearly that way now mate at some stations.
Fools gold on northernrail they don't spend on decent cameras ect or monitors them properly then loose millions on vandalism.
They will put cameras up, help pionts and say they are safe.
Then when in reality anything happens the passengers are on there own till somebody turns up to ask them to fill in a form.
Bt police, and security are just there after anything happens and you would be lucky if the were around at any given time.
,companies don't really, care as its more profits for them.
Honestly I would say 90% of the incidents at stations are dealt with by the staff and not even reported as most of us get frustrated as it goes nowhere.
We have a new manager she is really good for a change, was telling us that when she is meeting up with the higher up she is shocked how out of touch they are with the reality of what it's like out there.
