We are the state. The state helping me or a farmer, that's helping eachother out.

Beautiful if you think about it.
Around our way there's an incredibly frustrating culture of littering, even when there are bins nearby. The few times I've asked people why they do it, I was told that they pay taxes for road sweepers and other cleaners so it's not their problem to keep the neighbourhood clean. It sounds like you agree with them.

Oh I don't doubt that, and as I mentioned before, the commissioners tend to impose pretty stringent targets, which I'm sure will increase in line with all of the new nurses that will inevitably be attracted by whatever pay deal is eventually negotiated. Heck, the country as a whole has a pretty much "use and abuse" relationship with the NHS and its staff.
Oh aye, some of the things people rock up to general practice or a&e with are truly mind boggling.

Good friend of mine used to work in a busy A&E as the psych nurse. The crap she tool from managers and patients alike is depressing to hear. Needless to say she moved into a less insane working environment.

Which is great for her but begs fundamental questions about the sustainability of operating in such a manner. It's a recurring pattern there.

It will keep going because there is always a fresh batch of young kids coming through, who are totally wet behind the ears. They then move on to thinking they can change the system if they stay, then they give up and finally decide.to.look after their own wellbeing.
Enter the next batch. Round and round we go.

Isn't that horrible?

But I'm not even sure that is to do with the state providing facilities. Something similar from an old work place of mine sticks in my mind.

The factory and warehouse was rebuilt including new toilets, canteen, common space (it was a large site, so we were able to build a new unit whilst the old one ran). The latter in response to staff feedback on the inadequacy of previous facilities.

It got trashed. Litter and god knows what left there. Somehow someone broke a toilet. When asked why it was treated so poorly one of the team leaders responded "well, there's cleaner's and maintenance guys the company employs ain't there?"

Contra the Swedish and German plants which were pristine and the staff felt like they had a stake in and respected the facilities (and each other).

We're so weird in Britain. Always someone else's problem.

Aah, classic, using an anecdote to counter a broader statement. There are laws in place against littering, so the state takes care of that.
But you're right, I do agree with them. As I witnessed a murder yesterday, I kept wondering why the police didnt do anything about it. Ahh well, not my responsibility.

If only I had a Margaret Thatcher quotations book to inspire those rejects...

It seems common that staff will be worked to the bone and then giving access to Headspace to deal with the stress. There's no thought given to what is causing the stress to begin with. Incidentally, from what I can tell from the other half, the union don't care about these things either as apart from the quarterly magazine, she doesn't ever hear a dicky bird from them all year.
Yeah the union donsnt care about staff wellbeing. It's all about money. Yes more money.in your pocket is always better but.
I would love to see them really take on the real issues.
Where are the fully kitted out gyms for staff to blow off steam and look after their health.
On site councillors to speak to or even group support?
I tried to get a support group set up. Was told there was no available space. I mean, no space. In an evening??
Mandatory break? I have known ward managers who won't sit on a ward for an hour so the nurse can take a break.
Subsidised meals, why do trusts have to make profit on staff food, why can't it be cost?
Mandatory time off for those who are assaulted?
I got concussion once and was fielding calls every day to get back. Ended up taking 2 weeks, just to prove a point.
Parking costs. Simply you shouldn't be charged to park onsite at your workplace.
Staffing levels? You can employ more HCAs/support workers/assistants.
Trusts just choose not to

That is just a few.
If the unions really cared they would be going into these negotiations with the government saying, right you don't want to talk pay and claim you want to make the workplace better now how about we start with some of the above?
We discuss this at work and there isn't a person who wouldn't take less money in there pocket, if it meant conditions improved.

Unions need to get there arse into gear and really look at what matters. It's not all about pay. Pay is just the headline grabber. The real work is not sexy, but somebody needs to do it.

Concerns over these pay rises are that inflation/interest rates will never go back down as these companies/banks know people have more dough in their pocket to spend.
Mate nobody is getting a rise prices still go up.
People are not asking to leap ahead of costs ,just not fall any further behind.
I havnt had a rise in three years train fares have gone up. For instance.
Look at it another way no pay rise nobody spends , jobs and companies go.
You can't spend what you havnt got
There isn't a direct link between what a nurse gets to the price of milk in tesco.
No matter what the tories like to spout.

Are you always a nob when someone challenges your world view?

That's not how the economy works. Inflation is steadying, and as such so will interest rates. Eventually, they'll both drop, but likely at differing rates.

We've had more than a decade of low interest rates and inflation hasn't been this high since 1990 ish; there's peaks and troughs, but it's mostly been troughs.

It's going to be a difficult few years, yet the economy will improve. Will it reach previous years and what the long term cost of borrowing will be being the questions.

We borrowed 22 million last month to pay for the energy companies discounts......why not just nationalise them with that money?

On the ITV news Hydogen boilers in the future burning coal fire statiions to supply the stream - BANG - good luck with that time book instead of Gas boilers....

It's madness......
Just to keep the green madness going ......
