Quantity Vs Quality?

True. Rodwell is a 1st teamer now so that's another so called "signing" in terms of 1st team players. Same could be said of Gosling (both are injured at the moment) but both fall down the pecking order to squad players when everyone is fit. Then there is Vaughan and Anichebe.

Coleman is another breaking through to add to the "signings" bin. Other's like Duffy and Mustafi arent really considered to be part of the 1st team squad IMO at the moment.

So far, the 1st team is --
Howard
Nash
Hibbert
Coleman
Heitinga
Jagielka
Baines
Ditsin
Yobo
Neill
Rodwell
Gosling
Neville
Arteta
Pienaar
Bilyaledinov
Osman
Cahill
Fellaini
Saha
Yakubu
Vaughan
Anichebe

When fit, that's the basic 1st team 23 man squad.

So the question is, is that too many players over quality of players?

I dont think so. Adding Donovan, Jo, and maybe 1 more to the list, its slowly getting back on its feet with the right about of squad players and key players.

Injuries have just killed everyone and areas such as the wings/pace still need improving.

And with players inevitably leaving in the summer, Moyes will have to bring in more.

Mate you have no Jo or Donavn there which is fair enough as we dont own them, like i say Mustafi, Duffy, Baxter, Wallace and Agard have all played first team football, Garbutt has been on the bench - theres a few others i could mention who maybe i dont think have a chance of making it.

Also
Turner
Ruddy
Jukebox.

All in thats a squad of 34!

I don't get the point you are trying to make, is this a debate about how good Moyes is in the transfer market, cos it sounds that way!

He has made some Great signings over the time he has been in charge but he has also made some shockers. as do all managers. Moyes best signing for me has to be either Arteta 2.5mil, or Cahill 1.5 mil. both are now 15mil players. Worst Koldrup!

We have looked light this year cos we have had so many crucial injuries.
Jags and Arteta are 2 of our best players and any team they were in would miss them. Add to that all the other injuries we have picked up this season and you have a squad that looks light. I think if we add 2 more QUALITY to this squad and get fit all our key players its Moyes strongest ever squad. Thoughts......

Nope not really, no real point jsut opening up a debate. Just that in years we have added a lot of players to the squad in the main we have tended not to do well the following year. Are we better of blowing our buget say on two big, signings or padding out the squad with depth and numbers (that somewould say dont even exist)!

I still think that its the signings of the 07/08 season that has provided most yield. Lsat season we signed Castillo,Jacobsen,Nash, who were completely unheard of and not someone that would get everyone excited when you hear their names to a bit. I was more excited about Saha than Fellaini cos i knew we have a wolrld class player in our side now.

How many worldclass players do we have right now in the starting team?

1,Arteta
2.Saha
3.Howard

How many top class players do we have?

1.Jagielka( very close to worldclass)
2.Baines
3.Pienaar
4.Fellaini
5.Cahill(not this season though)

How many good players do we have?

Yobo,Heitinga,Billy.Rodwell(getting better every game),Yakubu,Neville,Neill,Vaughan

How many average players?

1.Osman
2.Hibbert
3.Distin
4.Anichebe
5.Jo
6.Gosling
7.turner
8.jutebox

Top Emerging lads?

1.Seamus "boss" Coleman
2.Jose Baxter
3.Kieran Agard
Can anybodyb tell me what was sooooo special in Segundo Castillo???..Carlo Nash( 1 or 2 appearances, need to replace him)

The good amount of good players need to be changed into Top class players atleast if not more and the average players need to be changed into good players if not more.

Surely, Quality over Quantity but how are we gonna do that is the major question!

I think it's nearly always best to add one or two new faces each year. That has traditionally been the Moyes way. Add a couple of players that improve the first team each summer, which then automatically improves the depth by pushing first teamers into squad players.

I dunno what it all means.

In my eyes this isn't even a debate because why would you sign a senior player if you didn't think he would add something to the squad.

I can see why you sign youth cos they may show great potential

But back in 04/05 we didn't have as many quality players at the football club and it was far easier to sign 4 players for 2 to 5 million each that could make a impact. you have to spend more now and just bring in 1-2 cos the players that are already here a good players.

Moyes has frustrated me in every window with his lack of buisness but he has had his hands tied.

If you look at his 2 main signings in the last 2 windows i think he is improving. Fellaini is one of the best midfielders in the country now already. Billy looks class but isn't having a impact, i think its cos he played a full season in Russia before coming over here and getting thrown in the deep end due to our injuries. just my views.

we now have quite a large squad with mainly average players so from now on would like 1 quality player added to squad rather than 3 more average

Well in truth we will always have to sell somebody in order to buy, so who are we selling for the £15m for Defour?

And I wouldnt say we had a large squad, we have an injury ravaged squad, thats bulked out with youngsters and reserve team players.

Out
Seamus Coleman - R. Madird 17.75 mill

In
Steven Defour - 15 mill
Steve Finnan - Free
Stephan Hunt - 2.75.

Bring on the three Ste's!
