I use commas far too often when I'm typing on forums

my spelling has gone downhill since being on here, the amount of edits i do because of a spelling mistake is unreal, i find myself reading through it and questioning correct spellings because of the amount of bad ones i see on here.

No, not really Reidy. Common Latin abbreviations such i.e. and e.g. tend not require italicization.

I'm not saying that you can't italicize, just that it is not required or desirable.
