Progress

Martinez inherited a solid top 7 squad. By the end of his tenure it was a bottom half squad. Moyes and Koeman both took bottom half squads into the top 7. Its as simple as that. Trying to make out that Moyes was a failure because his league average position was closer to 8th than 7th is strange, regardless of what he does now that man worked miracles at this club.

Moyes was a failure because he never won anything in 11 years. He could have stayed another decade and he'd still be searching for that elusive pot.

Cowards don't win trophies.

We are now back we where we were when Moyes left. Now we can start progress.
You are correct, sir. It's not so much about progress; it's has lot more to do with recovery. Martinez ( not a good manager) almost took a seventh place team out of the league. Koeman has done what any decent manager could do with the talent on hand. Whether the assembled transfer team can find the players needed to improve our present position, is the 6 million dollar question, isn't it?

Hahahahaha...absolute rubbish.

Got a bunch of deadwood off the payroll as well.
Cleverley, Gibson*, Oviedo*, Niasse*.

Brought through a great player in Davies. Gana's been a great signing.

The only real downside to this season has been the long-term or recurring injuries to Bolasie, Coleman, Schneiderlin and McCarthy. Think we would have done much better in recent weeks with those four available.

With the changes to the squad, 7th seems about right. The next window will be indicative of if we really can challenge those above us.

Finishing above Arsenal would be the cherry on the cake, though...

* Coincidentally, have been/will be relegated...

We were never close to relegation and he didn't nearly take us out of the league though. There is no need to embellish his time here.

He was sacked for his performance. It wasnt good enough, but it wasn't even close to what that guy said.

I do remember some people worrying about us being dragged into it at some points during the last two seasons - especially last season - but always thought that was a bit over the top myself.

It was utterly dire. If he'd continued, we were headed for it though - I'd say.

Bedwetters were worried. You have to be a special kind of terrible to be relegated.

We weren't good enough under Martinez and he was sacked for it ffs. Again, there is nor reason to even discuss the what ifs. The club cut ties when they derermined it wasn't working/no chance of recovery.

It is what it is. In terms of progress it's been minimal this season. The two chances for a trophy were horrific and we improved 4 places in the league.

Next season will be the bigger indicator IMO.

Aye, fair enough Cheese although I'd say there's been more than minimal progress this campaign. Maybe minimal in terms of league positioning and achieving anything - spoiler, nothing but we're better on the pitch, especially at the back and in terms of being a much more rounded team on the whole. For me, that is unquestionable.

The cup runs, well they can't even be described as that, were disappointing - granted. Especially going out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle.

I'm looking forward to next season intently. The progress, hopefully, should continue.

You know I think you're sound as F, C.

I guess I take the two chances completely missed in the Cups a bit harder than the average bear. Folks liken deep cup runs and exiting at the first stage as equal around here. For me a semi exit and a 3rd round exit aren't equal at all. At the end of the day, in terms or the final results, maybe. That said in terms of getting us and the club to dream of a trophy it's not even close.

We had two real chances last season. It hurts more the deeper you get...but OK, that's football innit?

So yeah...we didn't even buy a ticket to try to win the lottery this season. Pisses me off we got binned so early in our only chances of winning something. We went backwards from last season IMO with regards to winning something.

Thankfully we got some luck this season and made it back to Europe. 7th is an improvement but also takes quite a bit of luck to guarantee Euro footie.

I currently am worried about next season in terms of further progress. We only hit form after we were knocked out of the cups. We have a real chance of losing Rom and Ross.

This summer is going to be massive to retain places in my opinion, let alone make any progress.

Hi Cheese, " that guy" back at ya. It will take a near miracle to close the ground on the clubs above us in the table. Their starting point is the level we hope to get to...and they are going to be improving over the summer, as well.

We are the best of the rest, and unless something spectacular occurs, are probably going to stay there. I'm not sure losing Lukaku and Barkley will be a massive blow. It would completely change the spine of team, and that might not be such a bad thing.

The manager's away tactics need a complete overhaul. We are a Jeykll and Hyde outfit this season. Inexplicable.
