I am not a lawyer, but in US law don't plaintiffs go to a civil case when the legal one turns to custard (O.J.?)...or is it the other way around.
Cash has changed hands, papers have been signed...which seems to carry a lot of weight over there
Not that he'll be too worried, he won't be cutting any ribbons or doing public stuff and he might lose a few honourary soft jobs and sinicures, but he's going to slide out from under, justice wise isnt he.
Won't serve a day

I'm sure he won't but the issue is the fact he really does seem to think that this will all blow over and he will just waltz back into royal duties like nothing has happened. Thankfully though it seems Charlie and Wills seem to have other ideas and have said this won't be happening.

I didn't think he'd serve a day before this came out, this has just improved his chances of sliding out.

I think this is a dead certainty. He’s out……

Interesting thread here from a lawyer who was listening to the hearings today. She seems to think Giuffre is in pretty good shape to at least get to court which obviously won’t mean there is definitely going to be a decision against Prince Andrew. But his lawyers seem to be struggling to come up with an argument that isn’t “this shouldn’t be heard” as opposed to “I’m not guilty”.

And this one bit is especially horrible. He’s trying to get the law changed to save himself which potentially puts loads of other women at risk of not having justice

I think this judge is going to do everything to get Andrew in court……
As they should given what his team’s arguments have been so far. I agree with what you and others on here have said, he almost certainly will not end up in jail or with any serious punishments. But if what they are trying to do at the moment is their best defence then it needs to play out in court properly.

If she is guilty then she is guilty. However, it seemed to me that everyone had already decided her guilt, even the judge, prior to the trial. I think the family have a reasonable argument in respect of the judge pressuring the jury to reach a verdict, but we shall see…….

I think this judge is going to do everything to get Andrew in court……
You seem extremely exercised by the various judges in this matter , firmly of the opinion that they seem to be almost discriminating against Maxwell and the Royal.

Given the history of the US legal system Isn’t it perhaps more likely that they’re finding spurious arguments and defences spurious ?

I‘m pretty cynical about the legal profession especially the American one. Now Guiffre has been found guilty in a proper court of law how much easier is it going to be for civil cases to get heard and reach a positive verdict for the victim. There’s a lot of victims who are going to need expensive legal representation. This doesn’t happen if Andrews case gets thrown out due to this clause/agreement. Only thing stopping it would be potential influential defendants (offenders) pulling strings in the background.

TBF there are real problems with these extremely serious offences being dealt with in civil court. I am not sure there is a positive effect for anyone - victims, society, even suspects - by putting these cases into that system rather than the criminal court where they belong.

Absolutely. If a serious crime has been committed then hear it in a criminal court…..

I don't think it will ever get to a point were he appears in court. Diplomatic solutions will ensure that.
