I do wonder where the line will be with United players. Nicky Butt won 8 titles. I don't think he's anywhere close to being an all time great. Wes Brown had 7. It keeps going.
So you think people see George Cohen in the same light as Bobby Moore, Bobby Charlton and Alan Ball simply because he has a world cup winners medal too.
No body is suggesting Giggs just because he happened to be a member of a team that won 13 league titles. They're suggesting Giggs because he's widely regarded as one of the best players of the PL era and he was good enough for long enough to stay in a team that won 13 league titles.

It wasn't even a comment about Giggs anymore. I know he is a surefire guy to put in a HOF. What I'm curious about is will someone make the case for some of those United guys who won 5+ titles that aren't really all time greats. Because imo that shouldn't happen, but I've seen it in American sports.

Sorry, I misunderstood. For the reasons I mention in the post you quoted, I totally agree with you. Hall of Famers should be the top players not the good playees. Nicky Butt was merely good. He'd walk into our midfield. Giggs would get us into Europe and possibly top 4.

I was only saying to my lad yesterday, Shearer the best striker of the modern era. Hate to say it, but Gerrard would have to go in as well, single handedly kept them relevant for about 10 years!
