I knew we would miss Carsley.

He brought so much to the team. A limited player yes, but a very good player.

Seriously?

I can count time and time again how Carsley's positioning and awareness saved us from potential trouble.

I didn't care if he had panache, creativity, or style as those aren't prerequisites to being a solid defensive midfielder in England.

Rodwell may turn out to be something special but I could remember saying to myself on more than one occasion yesterday, "I wish Carsley was in there."

Yeah seriously.

Your seriously misplaced then, the 1 thing Carsley did was keep it simple and do his job. Won a tackle, passed it 5yds to a better player. Neville could do worse than learn from him

I think you're right there, H. Carsley was never flash nor was he particularly skillful. But he did what he did well. He was solid in midfield and held things together rather well. This guy was the first player to leave that should have been replaced by someone of similar or better calibre. Now we're in danger of having a gaping hole where there was once a rock.

Brum fans were praising him last night on the phone in. After watching that display yesterday, i was very envious

People do make out like he was the world's best defensive midfielder. Lets be honest here he wasn't, as I've said our problem is we've failed to replace him. We've failed to replace him with a defensive midfielder, instead we've used a centre half (Jagielka) and a 17 year old learning his trade (Rodwell).

Even someone like Sean Davis could have come in and made us a tighter unit. Like Carsley he's not very talented but he's knows the position, he knows when and where to move and he'll put his foot in. Yesterday Rodwell and Jagielka where running all over the place and whern't holding there position.

The fact that we haven't even brought a half decent defensive midfielder shows how unorganised we are. Carsley wasn't anything special, he was a decent player who did a job. He is easily replaceable but we've failed to act which shows what a [Poor language removed] joke we are.

Think Carsley was one of our most important players under the regime of David Moyes. He certainly wasn't the most skilfull and technically gifted player and the best thing about, he knew that perfectly well. Did his job (protecting the back 4 and break up play) close to perfection, but let the other aspects of our game over to the better players around him. We definately need to replace him, especially in a 4-5-1 system, where he was probably as important as Tim Cahill.

He is replaceable with a decent budget, but not with ours. He is the last of a dying breed TB, a true old fashioned pro who gives blood and sweat for the club. He would have finished his career here if it wasnt for his family commitments, Brums gain is our loss

He was a good player though. Very limited ability but a good player who made us solid.

He gave us shape and got stuck in, and gave our other midfielders the freedom to attack.

We could bring in a few defensive midfielders but how do you know there not gonna [Poor language removed] out of a tackle every time?

Yeah seriously.

I cant believe someone who can see so much in a Rodwell cant see the true value of Carsley. If moyes had known 3 months ago the situation were in right now he'd prob of give his right nut to keep hold of carsley (or the extended contract he wanted).

Do you honestly believe he was as talentless as you're making out or are you just trying to stir up a bit of controversy? Cant blame you if you are cos its better than talking about transfers/moyes contract/kirkby/kenwright etc

Well lets see what we get in first, then we can judge whether or not he will be missed. We still have 2 weeks to replace him and according to Moyes there is money to spend.

Of course he's the last of a dying breed which is why it was very important that we replaced him. We need someone with natural athletisism who could get around the park and offer something more than just defensive skills. Lee had his strengths but he also had alot of weaknesses that limited our game.

The fact that he could only play in one formation was another reason why he needed to be replaced, we need to be adaptable and our midfielder need to be able to play in 2/3 formations.

If Moyes gets the right man in we'll fine, hopefully he does. If he doesn't then I do agree Carsley will be a big miss.

Fact is Carsley started 165 games for Everton under two different managers. Moyes has had years to replace him but haven't found a player he felt would have improved enough over Carsley to warrant paying a transfer fee.

Why would you buy a defensive midfielder who shits out of tackles? Seems very stupid to me and I doubt Moyes would do this.

He gave us shape in a 4-5-1 yes where he could play such a limited role but in a 4-4-2 he was woeful. He's get overrun alot a wouldn't contribute when we had the ball. We where more or less playing with 10 men when he played in a 4-4-2.

He was a decent player yes who did a job in a very limited role. Is he replacable? Ofcourse he is, it's up to Moyes to get the right man in though.
