Possession heavy football will never work at Everton

Plucky little Everton was b

More like 18 months of Moyes’ players then once he assembled his own squad of players and style and they were found out. Every manager since Moyes has had a honeymoon period then it’s all gone wrong.
They’ve all had money Moyes could only dream about and still can’t even last more than a few seasons. Moyes stayed here too long but he doesn’t the credit he deserves.
Moyes had a decent net spend right up to 2009 when Kenwright decided to have a fire sale - a net spend that any club outside the elite at that point would have been delighted to have. All the cash went his way from sales. He operated on a very tight budget only from the season after we reached the FA Cup Final against Chelsea, when he'd erected his best team.

He was time rich, that too has to be factored in: all the time in the world to have ropey seasons and have the chance to get it right again. 17th he took us to. He;d have ben gone by Christmas in these times. No manager since has had that luxury.

Its almost like we have an owner who wont tolerate mediocrity.

Another issue with the Martinez-Silva boreball is that lulls your own players to sleep. They rarely look energized or "up for the fight". They are just going through the motions like they are passing through cones.

We're not Man City, Barcelona, Ajax, PSG or whatever top domestic club you want to name. And because of that we will never succeed playing possession heavy football. We will never have the best players, nor the depth needed to succeed in playing that way.

We can however succeed playing progressive pressing and counter attacking football. Such as the Red Bull teams do. We could also do well playing in the style of the Klopp's teams, which is why is killed me when the other lot signed him.

Thoughts? I know this has been mentioned on other threads, but I'd like to make this one solely about the style of football we need to play to succeed.

Saying it will never work I can’t agree, we don’t know what the future will bring. Martinez had the right balance in first season, that’s the best style I’ve seen us play for years. We could keep possession and counter attack when needed, defending was Robertos main negative.

I think it could but the play cannot be slow. Martinez couldnt understand that the tempo of play needs to be quick. Ie no sideways backwards passing for sake of it.

Do you think City played possession based football before they came into money and employed Pep?
Barcelona only went to this type of system under Cryuff.
For PSG - read City
Ajax , yes it is more in their DNA.

For most teams they utilise this when they have or can afford to buy the players who can play that way.

I still think we need to learn how to defend corners first.
We seldom get the first clearance in and the most likely outcome is a goal kick when the oppo miss.

Then we try and play it out with kakky defenders and the most likely outcome is another goal kick when the oppo miss a chance. If we get way with it.

The new Everton under Marco.

Jordan Pickford has taken the second lowest number of goal kicks in the Premier League with 19

Everton have conceded 30 corners so far this year.

Something ain't stacking up in your working out, there.
