Even though we've only played 3 competitive games (and let's face it 2 of those weren't much more than a pre-season runabout) I''d say Pickford. We've been needing a good keeper ever since Tim Howard went downhill and Pickford seems to have the attributes of a top keeper in waiting plus his save on Saturday against Shaqiri won us the game just as much as Rooney did. He has good concentration for a keeper as young as him and good reflexes but what impressed me most was his command of the box, that's something you don't often see nowadays especially in someone so young. If he progresses then we will have a great player on our hands but it's early doors yet so it's best just to wait and see.
Honourable mentions to Keane and Rooney too. I didn't really think Keane fit the ball playing centre half description when I first saw him but he's shown good control and could well be a dominant centre half in time. Rooney on the other hand has done great in being a good guide for the rest of the team to follow, the young strikers will learn from him and hopefully his winning mentality rubs off on the team like Andy Gray did back in the 80s. Most important of all though is he's a matchwinner and that type of player doesn't come around very often, he will earn us points this season from his goals that might be the difference between success and failure.
At the end of the day though it is no surprise that all of the players who've done the best so far all have premiership experience, we all laugh at how transfer prices get inflated because a player has premiership experience but it really can make a difference between reaching peak performance in week 1 or week 10. We will see Klassen and Sandro come good soon, I just think it won't be until maybe mid September if not October before they're consistently more than decent like now.
