Politics and stuff

(Neg) rep went for two reasons. Firstly, the forum software stopped supporting it, so we'd have been left with a vulnerable plug-in from a security perspective. To my knowledge, it isn't a functionality that has been re-built by the dev community surrounding our forum software either, so it would need us to hire a developer specifically to build and maintain it just for us. Secondly, it became something that was abused by some to use their strong 'neg powers' to blitz the reputation of new members, which isn't what it's designed for. It created a situation whereby I'm not sure it would have been restored even if the software did exist (which it doesn't).
How much would it cost to bring it back

Yea, I get that, but when Danny asked for volunteers to moderate the place last month I'd wager that very few ( if any ) of the folk on here PM'd him.

GOT being boss is a mixture of boss posters and boss moderators. If posters aren't willing to volunteer their time to moderate the place then they're on shaky ground when they start to complain about feedback from the mod team, and though this idea that Bruce is floating is as much a surprise to me as it is to you, I'm sure it will have been discussed in length in mod central and is something they've agreed as a team, because that's how it works.
Honestly mate, if you volunteer for mod doesn't that look pretentious and assume a lot?

I'm sure people would be happy to help out moderating if they were approached (or if there was some criteria of some kind transparent), but relying on people to PM the site owner before they are considered seems a shallow net to cast if you're looking to increase the team.

That being said if what you want is for mods to be folks that really, really want to mod as opposed to just bring happy to mod if approached then it makes a bit more sense but as I say I think the pool is smaller.

After reading the entire thread I think @GrandOldTeam has the right idea with the suggestion to just place all politics stuff in a separate forum for that stuff with many warnings about what posters are walking into. I can understand the criticisms of @Bruce Wayne and that it must be a hassle to moderate those threads but I think the idea to place them in the UG forum isn't the right one. Either ban it all entirely or if the issue is with high-maintenance modding then lob it in there with instructions that only things like swearing are going to be removed.

So in short, can we please stop whinging and hitting report or name-calling if you don't agree with someone. Scroll down and get on with your day.
