Politics and stuff

*shrug* I'd be quite happy to adhere to the rules more strictly and simply ban all political, religious and racial posts entirely.

Frankly, I (and I think many others on here) would rather this, than the "pay to speak about politics" approach.

However, the consensus seems to be that both approaches are heavy handed, interpret the rules too strictly and take away something which is great about this forum.

People are putting forward alternative suggestions which you are outright ignoring to take on board.

Please put my name on the list of people who are willing to volunteer to moderate, even if it is just to moderate threads of a political/religious nature.

To be fair, this is one of the best politics centred threads in a while.

Perhaps it is a cunning plan to unite users in defence of free speech? Hands across the divide and all that, common ground, commonalities?

Sod Winston Smith jesuisvoltaire :)

Judge of a man his questions, not his answers

I would be happy to assist with modding any of the political threads. That's not to say I wouldn't stick my oar in and immediately ban for ever anybody whose taste in music, films or favourite pastry item I disagreed with.

anybody who puts themselves forward should be automatically banned from ever doing it, bit like Politicians.
not just you Anj, anybody.

When you think about it that's what likes and neg rep is for...instantly self moderating
won't happen; its all about the bottom line of advertiser likes - thems the ones that count, not free exchange of ideas and opinions

(Neg) rep went for two reasons. Firstly, the forum software stopped supporting it, so we'd have been left with a vulnerable plug-in from a security perspective. To my knowledge, it isn't a functionality that has been re-built by the dev community surrounding our forum software either, so it would need us to hire a developer specifically to build and maintain it just for us. Secondly, it became something that was abused by some to use their strong 'neg powers' to blitz the reputation of new members, which isn't what it's designed for. It created a situation whereby I'm not sure it would have been restored even if the software did exist (which it doesn't).

This sounds terrible.

Why would people do such a thing?
