Players who have came through the academy.....

Always been worried about our scouting since a Shankly scout invited me for trials at Liverpool which I politely refused reasoning if good enough for them the blues would be knocking at any mo but not a peep. Since then Everton fans who really made the grade did so at Liverpool - Fowler, Owen, Mcmanaman, Carragher, Gerard(?), Rush.

The entire reason Everton and England turned to mush can be laid at the door of Everton's poor scouting system it was like a young, taller Zico of Brazil was on their doorstep and they were too pished to realise.

Aye he did. Radzinski was on for a hat trick, took it round the keeper and slid it to Chadwick to slot instead. Can’t remember who against like but I was there.

Edit: I think it was against Bolton and Big Dunc got sent off early on for elbowing someone for basically no reason. We won 3-1.
Bolton, Leicester and Blackburn he scored against.

My old school that, unfortunately I’m crap at footy though.

You could probably make a team of lads who have come through Cardinal Heenan, unreal the amount of footballers who have come through there.

...yep, my son went there and often points out old schoolmates when games are on telly. Steven Gerrard obviously went there.

i remember Neil Dewsnip was a teacher there before he joined Everton and then the English FA. He had Sean Doherty and Jay McEveley (Blackburn, Scottish International) in the school team he coached.

Reminds me of that Basement Jaxx song.

‘red alert, red alert, it’s a catastrophe...’

Think there’s literally one or two from every year, on top of the ones already mentioned, there’s -

Lee Nicholls (MK Dons), Jack O’Connell (Sheff United), Ty Browning, Bradley Orr, David Nugent, Sean Clancy (Blackpool), Carl Tremarco (Tranmere) & Bobby Duncan (Fiorentina). Big David Price and Rocky Fielding went there aswell.

The school banned academy scouts whilst I was there because they were fed up of their better players being poached

...yep, Sean Clancy being Abbey’s brother and Peter Crouch’s brother-in-law. Good footballer, didn’t progress after Steve McMahon gave him his Blackpool debut at a very young age.

They have a mural on the wall going into the school gym with pictures of many of the players we’ve mentioned.

You could have gone on and made millions capped for England at the world cup.. But you'd have been a prick

There’s a big article in the Sunday Times today about Chris Long who been banging in the goals for Motherwell lately ( they play Celtic in a televised game on Wednesday) . I remember him as a 19/20 year old striker saying how he used to like to shoot early to catch the keeper by surprise, then shortly after he did just that scoring a decent goal in the Championship while on loan at Brentford. He never seemed to rise above that level though.

...i remember watching him play for England U21s against Christian Ronaldo. Fine career and still playing very recently. Sean O’Hanlon is another centre-back who had a similarly long and successful career in the lower leagues.

There are loads, just a few more quick ones from me:

Paul Tait played for the likes of Bristol and is back as a coach.
Keith Southern a decent career at Blackpool and also back here coaching.
Jamie Milligan Fleetwood.
Sean Doherty moved to Fulham.
Nathan Holland currently on loan at Oxford from West Ham.
I think Carl Reagan went to Barnsley after being part of our FA Youth Cup winning team, Mick O’Brien went to Torquay.

i wouldn’t include the like of Jagielka, Baines and Barton in any list.

I remember Sean Doherty doing the absolute dirt on us, binning us of for Fulham and making a song and dance of it in the media, like he was some kind of star. His Dad was a youth coach here as well. Annoyed me at the time.

He ended up in the league of Ireland.
