Players we sold too soon.

Michael Ball, had his problems with injuries when he left but I thought he was top drawer in his early years

I think we sold him because we knew how bad his injury was and how much it would hinder him later on. He was pumped full of injections to play for us when he should have been rested and it f**ked him big time.

I'm sorry but your second paragraph is a what if. So we would've beat Wigan if Rodwell and Beckford played? Or we would've finished top 5? Sorry but that's a ridiculous statement.

It's like saying if Wayne Rooney stayed at Everton we would've won the league by now.

Isn't the whole thread a what if?

Often thought Jeffers would have done better with us, although he was damaged goods when he eventually came back

Steve McMahon is a kopite cnut, should've sold him sooner.

I take it you don`t like him then?
Well i remember him in a blue shirt, in particular the away game at Brighton on a Tuesday night in 1980, for obvious reasons there wern`t that many of us, but more than enough to make our selves heard, McMahon ran rings round Brighton that night and capped it off with the final goal in a 3-1 win. At just 19 we all thought we had a player, the same feeling we have with Ross now. OK Ross might end up being better than McMahon,(who also that night threw stuff into the crowd to his fellow Evertonians)
McMahon may have blotted his copy book in later years for the RS but that was mainly because he missed out on our success IMO.
Anyway because of that night back in 1980, i never really had that "hatred" some blues had for him.

we needed to sell rooney to stay alive, but sometimes i sit there daydreaming about what might have been

do you think he could've done Marcus Bent's role that season? though i think that year it was more about the spirit and sheer will of that team to fight against the odds. selling rooney strengthened that resolve

I disagree with the Rooney shout purely on the basis that the fee we got for him enabled us to freshen up the squad and improve..... Would have loved him to have stayed and for investment into the squad but at the time that was never gonna happen..... Also the fee.... Some say it was too low but in reality we were hardly in a financial situation to have turned that fee down sadly.

Andy gray?

I find him somewhat overrated in the lore of Everton strikers. Scored memorably when the primetime cameras were on him. Figures that he went into TV-land later.

Goal ratio on par with the likes of AJ, Dunc and Beattie, worse than Yak's. Nowhere near the league of Cottee or Sharpe.

EDIT: probs a bit harsh on the former lad based on his TV-personality. His goals were crucial to us at the time. But his form at Villa after he left us was Anichebe-levels of goalscoring. So not sure we missed out there.
