Players we sold too soon.

Big Dunc, Kanchelskis, Rooney off the top of my head. Alan Ball before my time but that would be a thread closer. Gary Linekar as far as being the second best striker we've ever had despite the shortness of the time we had him, but a lot of these sales come down to the price being right.

Someone above said Yakubu, I agree as a wildcard, that guy just knows how to score goals, I know I wish we had him at least on the bench right now and for the last couple of seasons, beats having Anichebe.

Tony Cottee

I'm a Cottee fan, but we didn't sell him too soon. We had him for 6 years, and his time with us were his peak years.

He served us excellently, too...better goalscoring ratio than Sharpy, Gray or Big Dunc, you'd have to go back to Bob Latchford & Joe Royle (not counting that one Lineker season) to get to Cottee-levels of goalscoring.

Lineker, tho'...now that is one player we sold too soon.

Really surprising that hardly anyone's mentioned him in this thread. Best goalscoring season in our blue since Dixie Dean days.

EDIT: just checked Wiki: 30 league goals in 41 games! That's nuts. And 40 goals in 57 in total. That's almost Ronaldo/Messi levels.

Simple - who do you think we sold before we should've?

I'll go first, and this is by no means an exhaustive list;

Martin Keown

Wayne Rooney

Peter Beardsley

Tony Cottee

Andrei Kanchelskis

We never sold Rooney too soon. He wanted to leave and we couldn't turn down nearly 30 million.

Just going to say it, Beckford and Rodwell.

Oh and Dacourt.

As good a player as Rodwell is we got 12 million for him, if you go on Bluemoon the City fans are complaining that he's taking up a squad place. If he wasn't a crock he would have went for a lot more.
