the thing about most of the sales is we got really good prices, bar yakubu, which was an absolutely shocking sale for me. I didn't see the point in accepting a measly £1.5m for someone who could easily have regained form and been a great goalscorer - as he proved the next season at Blackburn.
With players like rodwell, anichebe, lescott, johnson etc. we got good deals for them, so therefore it can't be seen as letting them go too early.
With a player like rooney who we sold for well under £10m his actual worth, it was too soon. We should have said no, had him another year and then got possibly £35m.
Was sad to see beckford go, £4m was probably his worth, if not higher, but he got 10 goals for us and was a great option. People saying they haven't done much in their career since are getting it wrong. Things don't work like that, look at Pienaar for example, was great for us, went to spurs, couldn't replicate his form, came back to us and all things were rosy again.
we're not just any old football club.
