who's going to play right back on Thursday ?

hibbert is suspended, neville is now injured, heitinga is ineligible, jags is injured... guess next in line would be yobo, but he can't be spared for the centre.. coleman isn't in tonites reserve match, so assume he's still injured too...

only one left I can think of who has done it before would be Gosling... am i forgetting anyone ?

How do we get a player badly injured and not even get a yellow card shown the **** who did it? It was the same at Newcastle last season. Moyes has said he wasn't happy on both occasions. Well he and the players on the pitch should be all over the ref like flies around [Poor language removed] demanding something gets done when it happens. Can you imagine any other team puitting up with that?

Unbelievable.

steve round

Bollox....I heard that Modeste Mbami is available on a free transfer...I know Wigan were sniffin round him, anyone think that he's worth a punt ?

Gutted.

Got to be Gosling for RB against AEK. He's played that position before. I'm confident he'll be able to do the job against them.

Our only option is Pienaar in the middle in my opinion. He's the only player we have available that can receive the ball under pressure and come away with it in a positive position. Osman and Hibbert are going to have to keep playing, we don't have the options to drop them unless Gosling becomes a starter.

I reckon Pienaar and Heitinga/Rodwell in the middle depending on league or Europe and Bilya starting every single game on the left. Pienaar is going to have to carry us for a while until Arteta is back. Come on Steven.

He also presses the ball which is useful, he'll get in players faces with his tenacious approach. We need to try something, the Rodwell, Cahill and Fellaini combination has already been used it it looked unbalanced.

Osman or Pienaar for me, preferably Pienaar but I wouldn't even mind Osman in there aslong as he's the more offensive midfielder.

We don't have anyone good enough to protect Osman tho, unless Heitinga turns out to be a revelation but I doubt it. Pienaar is the only one with the right set of skills I think. Osman is [Poor language removed] under pressure, Pienaar is far better at shielding the ball and coming away with it.

When Osman's in his natural surrounding's he doesn't get pushed off the ball every time he gets it. He's got quick feet and can change direction quickly, like a poor mans Arteta so to speak.

He understands the role alot more and that's a big thing for any player, that and the fact that he there's alot more options in the middle.

I see your point though, he does need a physical player alongside him, someone who gets stuck in. I wouldn't fancy Osman and Rodwell as a central pairing, maybe in European games but not in the League.

I'd love to see Pienaar in the middle, I think he's got all the tools needed for the role. He's also got that energy and he presses the ball, something none of our players, bar Cahill, do.

Heitinga is actually supposed to be a defensive midfielder who is happy bringing it forward, so I guess we'll see now (and probably a bit earlier than planned) if that's true.

I think we need a shake up in the middle at the moment and we need some experience in there. I'd have Rodwell out for the time being and play Heitinga. The only thing against that is that we desperately need Pienaar in there too as the creative force - as Brownie says ,he's the only one available who can do a job of screening the ball and adding much needed guile and composure in the centre - but that combo is a bit untried under match conditions (preseasons to try this stuff out would be nice Kenwrong!!) and therefore might be a step too far. Personally, I'd go for it against AEK Athens as we have enough games to qualify, and in any case we should be prioritising the Premier League.

I don't disagree with you at all, but as Heitinga is anyway unavailable for Europe (at least for a while) I suspect we are going to see some form of the Cahill/Fellaini central midfield swapping from last season.

Just gets effin worst!!!!

Anyway, proper gutted for Pip. Most consistant player and a great leader. Yobo will be captain now I guess, but I'd prefer Timmy Legend to be fair.
