Phil Neville.....

He's been superb for the club. Has a very professional attitude, has the versatility to have covered a wide range of positions for the club, and for the fee we paid for him has been a bargain.

Of course he's not the greatest player to put on the shirt, and it is frustrating that he's playing as often as he has done this season, but that's hardly his decision.

As a player you sense he's rung every last inch of talent out of himself, which is not something you could say about many of the wunderkids that have been hailed as the next big thing in his time at the club. It's certainly a trait that Barkley would do well to mimic.

This, emphatically.

He's never been anything other than a top pro, but Christ, have you actually seen him play this season? He's being carried by the rest of the team and oppositions have long since sussed him out as a weakness they can attack. He gets selected because we know Moyes is loyal to his favourites.

Maybe he could still look good in the Championship, but the pace of a PL game badly exposes him.

Would you rather him start over Gibson/Osman/Coleman with everybody fit ?

I'd have him in there somewhere yes. Again, we play better with him. He's never gonna do silky dribbles or play killer balls, but in centre mid he breaks play up and plays simple passes (admittedly he's not the best but he's not dire- most of the time) and at right back he's very accomplished defensivly. Offers **** all going forward but I'd be more confident of him against Bale, Young and all the other quick little ****s from a defensive point of view than Coleman.

Half the time he just gets stick because he's Neville. Can't remember who it was against, maybe Liverpool at home this season (could be wrong), but he was our best player and people were giving him reluctant 7's all over the show.

A decent solid utility player, and a fantastic captain. Yes we will need to move on from him at some point, and improve on him to push for the top places, but for now I like him. He does the simple things well. Sometimes its not the obvious black and white of a ridiculous 50 yard pass or several million maradona turns to beat a man. Some of you 'football fans' need to look past the obvious stuff and realise what a player can bring to the table off the ball, and the simple stuff on the ball. Football isn't always a ronaldo\messi fap fest.

Neville hasn't done too badly in central midfield this season when he's been asked to cover for Gibson - he'd adept at winning the ball and he's got the best pass completion in our squad.

I do feel somewhat sorry for him though because his performances are distorted by fans depending on the result of the game, if we win he goes largely unnoticed and if we lose he immediately becomes the problem, regardless of how he performed.

The stats don't lie... And Neville's role is cover for Gibson. Have we lost games because of Neville? I would say No. Do we need someone better who can have more influence on games? I would say Yes.

Until we get someone else in, when Gibson is injured then Neville is still the best option.

Other than that he's been a great signing IMO. No not the most gifted but he's done a job, he's represented the club like a true pro, and hardly missed any games through injury. Personaly unless we make Europe think this should be his last season. If we're still relying on him next season that would be a worry. Would have no problem taking him on some European nights tho when were resting players.

PN in midfield pass rate may be high but I am afraid his passing is mainly sidewards or backwords he can break the play up etc but very limited & his age is catching up on him see how he does at Rightback V UNT today - I wish Coleman could play today!

Remember Baggy Face tried signing him for Spurs? What was that all about??

He's a great person to have around the team. I wonder are we spending too much on his wages though. I suspect he's one of the higher earners?

Great professional and a great presence around the club, although his ability is limited. I don't mind him so much and RB but in CM we need a stronger player there really.

That's the job of a defensive midfielder - win the ball and pass it to players who are better distributors.

Phil Neville WAS a descent player -
He MIGHT still be a good leader -
but he IS the most overrated PL player (nevermind playing captain ) -
his basic defensive mistakes cost us the the game today -
he is a passenger in a good side and carrying him gets harder every game -
he should do the honourable thing and just hang up his boots because he is so way past his sell by date that no PL side would take him on a free transfer -
he is unfortunately overstaying his welcome - that is my honest opinion despite his glorious past acheivements

Would rather see him CM and Coleman at RB. Neville's crosses were woeful today, he can't keep up with wingers, and as made evidence today his positioning was bad. At least Coleman has his pace to bail him out when he gets caught off guard.

If he was a dog they would have taken him into the garden and hit him over the head with a shovel a long time ago
