Very strange reactions on here. He was really good at one point, but he's past it and needs to go. We can say that without denigrating his past performances over the years. Regardless, you'd think Silva - who spoke at length about DEMAND in his first interviews - would want someone more like Coleman to be captain.

He’s A loser, that’s why he didn’t win any trophies with us. In his time here: Portsmouth, Birmingham City, Swansea and Wigan Athletic have all won trophies.

So us not winning a trophy instead of any of those is solely down to him, and the fact he is a loser??

Jagielka thinks 8th is a fantastic season.

Link to where he said this please.

Time to move on. Should not be a starter. In saying that could play a role in the squad. And in saying that should not be the captain for our fresh start.

“(Finishing eighth) is a positive. At one point it was looking a bit hairy but we managed to turn it around. Eighth from where we were is not the worst position to finish in."

No it isn’t solely down to him, but he’s been a major part of it. He’s a coward of a captain and hasn’t won anything at the club in over a decade. Should be nowhere near the team with that record.

Hopefully Brands sticks to his word and players with no prospects, of which Jagielka should be one, are booted out of the club.

I think there's no harm , and its entirely possible, to gracefully manage Jags, and tell him that he has to compete for a place, that he's a senior player, with a lot to offer, but he can't be club captain any more because of the uncertainty of his starting position. The problem is we didn't get solid performances from Holgate, Keane or Funes Mori (obvz due to injury/form)
/. Holgate, Mori, Keane, Williams, Jags, Connolly - 2 out of them have to go, and either we take a big risk on Funes Mori + Keane or Holgate as the first choice, or get someone else in. Connolly (Loan) and Williams leave

Coleman has to be skipper! Pickford vice captain.

Just because he's considered best of a bad bunch don't mean anything, he's gash and has been for a good 2 seasons now. Shocking if we start next season even with him as a backup.

Spineless shithouse of a player aswell

Spineless shithouse of a comment more like.

So saying 'from where we were it's not the worst' equates to 'fantastic' does it?

Off the top of my head, Bob Latchford, Dave Hickson, Mick Lyons, Tommy Eglington, Peter Farrell are all widely regarded as Everton greats, and yet they never won anything between them while they were here. The idea that the more trophies you've got the better you are as an individual player is such childlike logic that it's almost endearing some people think that way.

And who’s fault is it that we were where we were? The players. As captain, and I use that term loosely with him, he should be taking some damn responsibility for the performances and say it was unacceptable. None of this backslapping to try and spin it that they done well in the end.

But he's done all that hasn't he? All season we've seen the 'we must do better', 'it's not been good enough' stuff in the papers but you've chosen to highlight one particular comment because it suits your argument.

In my opinion there was absolutely no lack of effort from the squad last season, it was simply a lack of quality. There's not a lot the players can do about that to be perfectly honest, if you're not good enough you're not good enough, no matter how hard you try. Anyone who thinks that squad could have finished higher than 7th is kidding themselves. The problem was recruitment, and we need to make sure we put that right this year.
