Our Squad....

I don't see why a EL campaign would be a mitigating factor. Never was for Moyes or Martinez.

I'm confused now ...

EL football next season will destroy our PL season. We do t want that. Only CL is worth it.

I just don't know what to think, or what you think !

As far as our squad goes though, a lot would depend on how we approached a Europa League campaign.

Three league wins on the bounce.

The players were never the problem were they really? All talk of the "best squad since the 80s" needing to be scrapped proven to be a load of nonsense.

Have you considered that it took the first 4 months of the season to coach the bad habits from the past two seasons out of the squad, hence the poor spell we had?

The squad and our league position is probably where it should be compared to the rest of the league, but we're a team on the up given our form in the past 7 league matches.

I have questioned the ability of some of our players over the past while. I still question the ability of some of them to preform at the level we are now looking to achieve. Mostly I questioned their willingness to give of their best.
It has taken youngsters to come in and show a bit of heart, it has taken the manager to shift some on in order tell them if they don't get on board they are out. Mostly it has taken someone to drive them on.
We are moving forward, we can't take the foot off the pedal. All we have done is given ourselves the opportunity to challenge for a top six spot, we are a way from being there and we can easily fall back to mid-table mediocrity.
We need two more in this window, at least 3 out and then we need to keep in touch with the top six to make ourselves an attractive proposition for top players in the summer.
More of the same.

I know stats don't tell the whole story but I noticed a couple of things today while looking at some.

A lot of people saying we desperately need more creativity in the team when teams set up defensively. Yet we had 16 shots today with 8 on target against a team who usually put a lot of men behind the ball.

Meanwhile, despite the result, the consensus is that City played wonderfully today and totally dominated Spurs for most of the match. they are rightly receiving lots of criticism this season but nobody seems to be suggesting that they lack creativity. They had a total of 17 shots with 7 on target.

What am I missing.

Why would you be confused over these two statements? They're not contradictory. I can say that next season a EL campaign will destroy our season AND state that no one cut any slack for Moyes and Martinez when it happened.

I think you're looking for things that aren't there in an effort to trip me up.

More smoking guns without the smoke.

So that's the new narrative is it? The players were winning four out of five at the beginning of the season.

Lol.

I think even after our short CL and Uefa cup campaigns Moyes was cut quite a bit of slack that season. It all depends what happens, I don't think it's binary.

As for the squad I think it has always been a case of attitude rather than ability our results against the better teams proves that. (I will concede the fact that we are better against teams who give us more space though)

Exactly. Which goes right against the grain of what's been said in this forum by the vast majority in the last rubbish months. Watch the attitude turn now though. It'll all go quiet on that now and "the rubbish" left to Koeman will suddenly all become players who've now been coached to play better by Koeman. Lol. It's utterly laughable.

Tbf to Dave everyone was saying what talent-less clowns we were for a large portion of the season. Having said that, I think they came to Koeman with poor attitudes stemming from the last two campaigns. It seems like they are turning that around which is great to see. Koeman is starting to win me over.
