Our biggest signing?

Player Valuation: £50m
After reading in the lukaku thread about the possibility of us signing him, it got me thinking about how we never really make high profile signings for proven players in form.

IMO Yakubu was probably our biggest in the last ten years and Kanchelskis probably our biggest in the last 20 years.

Just wondered what other people thought were our biggest signings ever?

It depends what you mean by 'biggest'. Do you mean highest profile when they joined? Or how important they turned out to be?

Baines, Coleman, Cahill should be high up on the second list, for example, though not the first.

In my time, the biggest signings that spring to mind are:

Bilic
Barmby
Kanchelskis
Beattie
Johnson
Yak
Fellaini
McCarthy

Even amongst these players, few are where what you would call top players in their prime.

Reckon we're looking at it the wrong way. I'd rather a player has their best years when they're at Everton. We've seen with the likes of Jags, Cahill, Arteta, Baines, Lescott etc. that these aren't often the biggest money deals. Even Fellaini you could easily argue has had his best form with us.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that big doesn't often correlate with best, especially these days when the really top drawer players are going for £40m +
