Our Academy is a Failure

Winning the league means nothing. A championship club would win that league too.

You don't need 11 championship quality players coming out of the academy. You need one or two who will go on to be top players.

While I think the original point is harsh I think he does have a point. I also don't think players improve when they are with us. Look at Lukaku. His hold up play for Utd is better already for them than it was ever for us. Stones has improved. Deulofeu has improved at Barca. I have no doubt Poch and Spurs will turn Barkley into England's best midfielder.

Do our coaches have the right skills to coach top players or are they more used to coaching a team that plays more direct.

I know Martinez tried to change it but I have no idea what the situation is now he's gone.

Liam, please.

You're saying that the Lukaku who signed for us on loan from Chelsea didn't improve at all?
You're saying that the John Stones that signed for us from Barnsley was no way improved to the 47.5m player we sold?
Barkley didn't improve last season under Koeman?

Sensationalist rubbish.

And you told me yesterday you're not a pessimist.

K.

Couldn’t see a similar thread, apologies if there is one.

Our academy is only capable of producing Championship standard players and hasn’t produced a striker since Victor Anichebe.

Players that have gone on from our academy system have found their way back to the premiership, but we never were seemingly able to ‘finish’ them.

What are your thoughts?

I really hope he isn’t given the job full time. He’s got an amazingly effective academy set up on the go which in the long term is worth far more to us than a shooting star style appointment.

But all these mentioned are young lads. They should improve regardless of what club they are at. They could have improved here as well.

Lay off the drugs mate, they're not good for you.

If the aim of the academy is to produce first team players that improve or sustain our position then maybe it is currently failing. If the aim is to generate funds by developing and then selling players at a profit, then it may also be failing.
Winning the premier league 2 is only means to an end (produce first team players) so it depends how you measure the academy, IMO.
