Without being fully versed in US law, when his defence of self-defence was accepted it became increasingly unlikely he'd be found guilty on those charges.

Once the lesser charges were taken off the table, it appeared to be a situation of all or nothing. Why that took place would be for an expert in their system.

At the time, I said both of these and it still rings true as rightly or wrongly you could see it coming, in a legal sense. Here in the UK, he'd be guilty all day.
