That's awful and shows how dangerous this sport is. The American woman's husband is paralysed after a crash and the Aussie woman's brother was in a coma after a crash. Willoughby seems to be ok, hopefully Sakakibara is too

That opens a potentially fruitful avenue for discussion:

Should such a dangerous sport be in the Olympics, even if @Toast and Liam Gallagher are enjoying the spectacle?

Well if we're going to get rid of sports for potentially terrible injuries we won't be left with much. These athletes know the risks they are taking and they carry on despite that. It's personal choice. The two situations I mentioned show that as the wife and the sister carried on. Would have been easy for them to have stepped away from the sport

I 100% agree with you. See: gymnastics, artistic. I also think that the pankration in the ancient Greek games supports the position.

I do, however, want to see someone take the other side. I think that Simone Biles made a pretty convincing case.

Boom! Gold for Shriever and silver for Whyte. Amazing

Shriever receives no funding and has to raise their own money.

Our rowers get a huge pot of funding and despite their Oxbridge education can’t even row in a straight line.

The BMX final was brilliant.

3 great wins in the boxing too. 3 medals guaranteed which matches Rio. I think London is the record with 5 medals.

Dubois, Luke McCormack, Yafai, Frazer Clarke and Lauren Price all still haven't guaranteed a medal and you'd think 2 or 3 of them will win their next fight. Dubois has only ever lost 1 fight in the amateurs and Price is brilliant.

Poor return from Britain in the rowing but at least we got another medal in the final race. So close to so much more though
It was a disastrous olympics. Even the ex-GB rowers are having a pop at them for being pathetically unprofessional.

BMX much better than rowing

Do they have a street or vert competition ?

I remember watching Dave Mirra cream everyone in the X games back in ye day, Mat Hoffman as well.
BMX is ridiculous as an olympic sport. It looks daft.

So is skateboarding, but at least there the kids are pissing themselves laughing and look like they know how absurd it is for their activity (I wont call it a sport) to be co-opted by mega sports corporations and the establishment's biggest sport event. Good on them for taking the piss and their money off them.

What a surprise that basically the only time you post in this thread is to be negative. Never post about the great things that have happened. I know you hate the British but maybe try and enjoy the rest of it rather than just dipping in to push your boring agenda.

They've been utterly pampered through life in private schools then red brick universities or Oxbridge before choosing to go professional with whatevever meagre talent thay have, and then the country hands them a kings ransom from the lottery...and they end up a humiliation, crashing boats and picking up a couple of runner up medals.

£125M poued into 'Team GB' rowing. Way more than for any other sport.
