Old Photos Of Where You Live

I used to walk to Old Swan from Roby - in the early 1970s - what a lovely art deco cinema photoed - only ever went through Old Swan on the bus to the match so I cant remember it - Old Swan back then had a nice feel to it .....

…I think the building is still there. Might have this wrong, but it was a Woolies before its latest iteration.

We’re not to far away, stroll to the nice butchers for bacon ribs but we tend to avoid Old Swan if we can.

In 1977 when looking for wedding rings we went all over Liverpool Beaverbrooks etc whe a salesman spitting image of John Inman put the tin hat on it from a point my future wife after trawling all over town did not like the rings in that era - plus we did not realise the Gold price was high ....
That was it we just sped on the first bus back home which went via Old Swan as the bus stopped in old swan I noticed a small shop window full of jewellery- we got off the bus ASAP & bingo we got a gold ring each with ideally what we wanted for a third of the price after hours in Liverpool shop after shop walking around for hours ...
Old Swan had good shops back then - I remember buying my first Black & Decher drill a 2nd that lasted for many tears for £ 10 a bargain back then :D

I remember Reece's cafe on the main Liverpool road waitress service back then very posh not as she announced 2 Cheezies on toast in a broad scouse accent - we had two gateau cream cakes & a coffee with a knife & fork - only after I had ate mine to bits of the plastic fork missing off mine must have ate them with the cake - we still laugh about it .... :D

Bigish Army & Navy store there too in its pomp in that era ...

It is there, main shops are Home Bargains and Alder Hey charity shop. The butchers were quite famous, and popular. I still go to the Old Swan about once a week or maybe fortnight - being born and spending early years there I suppose draws me back.

…I don’t remember it being called that, so there you go.
I definitely remember it, but trying to confirm it is not easy.
I found a Echo article about Eric Nixon opening a cafe which mentions Ron Yeats's cafe near the end.
