I presume you’re not far from Howth. Went there once with my mates, we were staying in Dublin for Irish Derby at Curragh and got the Dart to Howth the day before. I’d got a tip for a horse called Ruby Tiger that was running that day, there was a small bookmaker at the bottom of a steep set of steps and a pub at the top.

Everybody backed Ruby Tiger and it sluiced in. Myself and 2 mates also had it with 9-1 and 12-1 winners, we literally cleaned that little bookie out, he wasn’t best pleased. It was pre-Euro, he said he’d pay us out in sterling if we won but he didn’t have enough. Told us to F-Off as we were walking out.

A proud Southsider Eggs. Howth is Northside - bohs Territory - although Rovers do have large numbers of supporters in Fingal which is across the Liffey. Howth is at the northern end of the DART,which runs around the Bay to Greystones in North Wicklow.

Born in Dún Laoghaire, raised and schooled on the Southside. I was brought to see Rovers before I could walk!!

I literally 'hit the roof' of the pub where I was watching that, when Cottee scored Everton's 4th equaliser. I jumped so high that my fist hit the ceiling!! There's probably still a dent in the plaster!

…..somebody I knew (who is now deceased) and was well known in the club and close to Kendall said he was in the club lounge after that game and was told it was ‘bent’. I have absolutely no doubt he was accurately telling me what he’d been told, you’d never meet a more decent man.

If memory serves me right, Dalglish resigned after it and allegations came out later about the RS goalkeeper. Watching our goals back, there could be something in it and I don’t just mean their keeper.
