Nikica Jelavic

I think we need to sell him in January. Apostolos Vellios or maybe even Chris Long would do better job for us than him as our 3rd striker after Lukaku and Kone at the moment. At least we would raise some small money to buy a new top striker after this season, when Lukaku will be gone.

Vellios must be awful in training to not get the nod over Jelavic

For someone who is 6'2", he's an embarrassment in the air. He doesn't try.

At any rate, agree with some here that he doesn't fit. I don't know where he fits, but it isn't here.

Yeah Anichebe was far better for the style of play that we play at the moment. Back facing away from goal with the defender's right behind you. That's not what we bought Jelavic for though surely? Jelavic is a goal scorer and is best getting in to the box and finishing anything that falls to him. The way we play, and particularly last season, didn't help him at all because how is he going to score goals up on his own facing away from goal?

He needs a srike partner and can we afford 442? just to accommodate jelly maybe play him wide with SP out?

Has anyone noticed how a lot of the strikers we've had since we started playing with one striker in about 2004/05 started off ok and then turned ****e? Bent was the first and there has been loads since. Beattie, AJ, Yakubu, Saha, Jelavic. I think it's more to do with the lack of support with Jelavic and his confidence completely going. I'm a fan of him but he has been garbage for too long. The thing is, you can't fluke those kind of goals he got when he first came so there is a top striker in him somewhere.

You have to be a very competent all round striker to be able to handle yourself up front on your own, which is why Lukaku made it look easy the other day, whilst others struggle. Jelavic's all round game isn't great but his first touch scoring is. I reckon with Lukaku starting week in week out, the pressure will be off him and if we can throw him on in the last 20 mins with someone like Lukaku along side him, he could do a job. There is no point at all playing him up front on his own, either from the start or even coming on as a sub. He just can't do it.

Your right he didn't fluke those early finishes. He's also been a goalscorer all his career. The thing is mate, there's players in the conference/Sunday league who are excellent finishers, however that doesn't mean they could start up top for a PL team. He came in full of confidence, relatively unknown, and got an early goal which built his confidence.

I and I'm sure others would of noticed when he arrived his actual game play was pretty poor, his touch outside the box was also pretty poor. Did we care? Did we heck, because he was banging the goals in! The danger signs were there tho.

I think he'll go on and score goals at a lower level again. There's no doubt everything has gone against him now and he's damaged behond repair for us. But in truth he's not good enough for this level.

They play a different way than we do. Jelavic is a poacher, we use him as a target man.

In many ways it's not his fault what has happened. When we first brought him in, we didn't have time to make him adapt to our play style as it was mid-season, so we let him off the leash and played to his strengths, and he scored goals.

However, he then had that summer to bed into the team, and Moyes murdered him IMO. He made him play as the deep lying target man who the wide men play off once the ball sticks, and Jelavic simply cannot do that at all.

Take the West Ham game for instance. All he had all game was a direct, straight ball to deal with, which he either half-arsed jumped for or attempted to spin off the shoulder if the ball evaded the centre-half. It's never going to work.

He needs to be in a team with a strong worker just behind him - similar to the job Negredo did yesterday for Aguero.

All that said, it's not going to happen at Everton now and it'd be best for all concerned if he moved on. I think he'd do a fantastic job in Italy/Spain.

None of that explains away the misses he's had in front of goal when he does have chances. It's no use blaming systems and formations - 7 goals in a season and a bit is indefensible.

I cant see him prospering in Italy or Spain, tbh. He'll probably end up in the Bundesliga where a lot of the Croats and Serbs play their football.

You're like me Tubes. Making excuses for him cos you love him. He's finished at Everton mate. He doesn't look like scoring, ever.

He has obviously smashed every mirror in a shop and been cursed by a weird old traveller woman. Also, walked under every ladder in a 10 mile radius.

Nah, he bought a monkey's paw off this bloke...

So weird.

So so weird.

He was so good when he first arrived. Like really really good.

Just mental how poor he's become.

I can't really work it out.

Must've just been a pure fluke, considering it hasn't happened since I can only assume this is the case.

Being prolific in Scotland and Austria is the equivalent of owning a coat in England before anyone tries it.

Still paying out for him...

Rangers receive £1m from sale of Nikica Jelavic.. but warn creditors they're unlikely to get penny from windfall
25 Nov 2013

OLDCO Rangers have received a further £1million from the sale of former star Nikica Jelavic – but creditors won’t see a penny of it.

Joint liquidators BDO wrote to 276 creditors this month informing them of the windfall but warning them they were unlikely to get any of the cash.

The letter said a payment of £995,000 had been received and they were expecting a further £1.058million in May 2014.

The payments relate to the transfer of striker Jelavic, who left Ibrox for Everton in January 2012 in a deal worth £5million.

Alan Duncan, who worked as the club’s kids’ entertainer and is still owed more than £2000, said: “I haven’t had a single penny of what I am owed.

“The Jelavic money should be used to pay the businesses they owe money to but it’s clear they have no intentions of doing that.
