Not saying that he's been covering himself in glory in the last 12 months, but he didn't really get any service in the first half. Under those circumstances no striker is going to look particularly good, unless they can drop deep and try something else, and that isn't Nika's game at all.

Maybe at this stage he needs to be coming off the bench. Would still rather have him than Naismith, though.

I have been consistent on Jela for the past 12 months...he is pyar tosh, gash to the max. If Jela was 20 yards from the edge of the Grand Canyon and was asked to kick a ball into the massive thing he would firstly fall over, then scuff his kick ....wide.
Nice bloke, **** footballer...give him a freebie and ship him out.

If that's not his game, then he's no use to us. Look at how Lukaku got himself into the game on Saturday - involved himself in the moves he himself benefited from.

We cant afford someone playing off the shoulder of the last defender. That's a luxury we dont have.

this mate. Loads of us on here have said hes tosh but some others are around 6months behind us. Just need to wait for them to catch up

Has anyone noticed how a lot of the strikers we've had since we started playing with one striker in about 2004/05 started off ok and then turned ****e? Bent was the first and there has been loads since. Beattie, AJ, Yakubu, Saha, Jelavic. I think it's more to do with the lack of support with Jelavic and his confidence completely going. I'm a fan of him but he has been garbage for too long. The thing is, you can't fluke those kind of goals he got when he first came so there is a top striker in him somewhere.

You have to be a very competent all round striker to be able to handle yourself up front on your own, which is why Lukaku made it look easy the other day, whilst others struggle. Jelavic's all round game isn't great but his first touch scoring is. I reckon with Lukaku starting week in week out, the pressure will be off him and if we can throw him on in the last 20 mins with someone like Lukaku along side him, he could do a job. There is no point at all playing him up front on his own, either from the start or even coming on as a sub. He just can't do it.

As a striker at Everton you as a lone striker have to hold and control the ball upfront when it is passed to you this is why Victor suited us more than Jelly part from Lukaku who looks world class - with Jelly it does just not stick with him totally different type of striker like a through ball and the shoulder of a defender- this is not happening for him under DM or RM as yet!

Is he still playing international football? Croatia?...if yes, they must be an amazing team...amazingly ****e!!

They play a different way than we do. Jelavic is a poacher, we use him as a target man.

In many ways it's not his fault what has happened. When we first brought him in, we didn't have time to make him adapt to our play style as it was mid-season, so we let him off the leash and played to his strengths, and he scored goals.

However, he then had that summer to bed into the team, and Moyes murdered him IMO. He made him play as the deep lying target man who the wide men play off once the ball sticks, and Jelavic simply cannot do that at all.

Take the West Ham game for instance. All he had all game was a direct, straight ball to deal with, which he either half-arsed jumped for or attempted to spin off the shoulder if the ball evaded the centre-half. It's never going to work.

He needs to be in a team with a strong worker just behind him - similar to the job Negredo did yesterday for Aguero.

All that said, it's not going to happen at Everton now and it'd be best for all concerned if he moved on. I think he'd do a fantastic job in Italy/Spain.

Yeah Anichebe was far better for the style of play that we play at the moment. Back facing away from goal with the defender's right behind you. That's not what we bought Jelavic for though surely? Jelavic is a goal scorer and is best getting in to the box and finishing anything that falls to him. The way we play, and particularly last season, didn't help him at all because how is he going to score goals up on his own facing away from goal?

I think we need to sell him in January. Apostolos Vellios or maybe even Chris Long would do better job for us than him as our 3rd striker after Lukaku and Kone at the moment. At least we would raise some small money to buy a new top striker after this season, when Lukaku will be gone.
