If anyone finds themselves in a position where an immigrant from another country (who has not had the benefits of a British education, who has not got a network of friends and family to help them with their job search and for whom English is their second language) has an advantage over them in the job market, they should take a good long hard look at themselves first.

* pulls up chair.

This might get fun again. ^^ Daily Mail loves immigrants, that's a firestarter right there... Good stuff, good stuff.

Not the point.

We don't have enough jobs for the current residents so letting in more people than are leaving the country will have one of two consequences. The immigrant is unemployed and a burden on the state or the immigrant gets a job and one more current resident is unemployed and a burden on the state. Neither are great.

In certain industries there is now an active bias against British workers as they are less willing to work with sub-standard conditions and environments.

There are plenty of recruitment agencies that search solely for eastern europeans in thier countries for these reasons.

The state is all that guarantees your freedom. Without it we have feudalism or fascism, one or the other. This tired right wing bull**** that we're living in some kind of socialist hell-hole being oppressed by an evil state needs to be shot through the head once and for all. It is utter tripe. This is not Soviet Russia.

Of course it's the point, blaming an immigrant for not having a job is just bull****! What would happen to the health service if we didn't have immigrants? How many immigrant doctors & dentists are there in the NHS? What would happen if they went back to their native countries? This is not because there are hundreds of 'White British' doctors on the dole due to immigrants coming over and taking their jobs.

People go on about Polish Plumbers taking work off native plumbers, this only happens because the people who are losing the work either overcharged or under served their customers. We are moving ever more to a global economy, the idea that we can close our gates to the outside world is backward thinking. The labour market is a global market these days, people need to wake up and realise that they need to compete for jobs based on their ability to do the work not based on where they come from.

People talk about free movement as though it's unfair and one way. British residents have the right to work freely throughout Europe as well, how many ex-pats run businesses in or work in Costa del Blackpool in Spain??

We are all so so ****ed.

What I would give to move to Australia or America. But I cant. Why? COZ THEY KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THEIR OWN BORDERS. I cant really offer them anything in the way of a specialist skill so they wouldnt let me in.

[h=2]What about entitlement to benefits?[/h]Migrant Workers
The rules are complicated and can be different for different groups and nationalities. Foreign nationals are not entitled to benefits when they are seeking work, unless they have already worked here and are temporarily unemployed. Citizens from the A8 countries for example, become entitled to benefits and housing if they are self-employed here, or if they have a job and register with the Workers Registration Scheme. Once they have been working lawfully for a year they no longer have to register when changing jobs and they become eligible for benefits when temporarily out of work as well as when working.

Illegal Immigrants
They are not entitled to any benefits.

Asylum Seekers

They are not entitled to benefits.

More to do with this!

Because people in them countries will do low paid work, they wont in this country, cos its not worth coming off benefits and into low paid work, you are worse off.
