Good idea but i prefer the fa cup winners to get that spot . Make 4th and 5th get europa which will make that competion better as there will be more teams to play in it . They should up the reward for playing in europa league

Another thing which mystifies me is why the Europa League winners aren't given entry into the next season's CL.

If such a reward was on offer, the Europa Lrague would immediately become more relevant and teams might start to see a point to the endless slog of the group stages in the first half of the season.


I know it wouldn't matter this year with Chelsea already clinching the CL spot, but it would open up path to the CL for a host of clubs whom don't have mich hope of making it there throigh league placings.

That would lead to competition for the big teams that currently make the money. We can't have that can we....

It was much better in days gone by when we had the cup winners cup for the F.A. cup winners and the uefa cup for all the other places.
It was only the greed of the teams that wanted more champions league places.

Totally agree with this. The Champions league is one of the biggest problems in modern day football.

It is self perpetuating - the teams that are in it get more money, can pay bigger wages, have bigger squads, players want to go there, etc etc and it becomes a barrier to other teams breaking through.

However, if there are going to be 4 teams in it, then I agree that the FA cup winners should get a place (a playoff for the 3rd league place wouldn't be a bad idea as well).

This is a separate issue, but the other thing that needs stopping is this ridiculous thing where teams that come 3rd in the champions league group phase drop out of it into the Europa League. I'm yet to meet a fan that thinks this is a good idea.

I favour scrapping the Europa League and wider participation in a single "European Cup". ie Just one competition.

A few tasty knockout qualifiers at the start of the season to narrow it down. This would bring uncertainty and shake things up. What annoys me is the guaranteed nature of £20M+ prizemoney in the CL. It's destroyed competitiveness in the domestic leagues.

It was intriguing to see top sides play each other. Now you see Barca-Milan etc sometimes two or three times in the one year. Takes something away from it IMO. Knockout football and champions only IMO.

An absolute shocking idea I suppose the final would be at Wembley rip the fans off even more a crass idea - look at the championship % wise the lower team seem to always to win promotion & the team who just missis promotion don't get promotion is that fair??? some would argued how can teams who do not win the league end up in a competition called CHAMPIONS???

If there was a play off system, I'd like it to work something like this: 4th automatically gets to the final, 7th plays 6th in the first match, the winner of that match plays 5th, and then the winner of the second match plays 4th in the final. Just one game for each round, played at the ground of the team that finished highest with the final at Wembley.

It is very hard to bridge the gap through a footballing structure, hence why we have billionaire owners to bridge the gap. Man City rich types are therefore not the problem, it's the Champions League that is the problem.

The Europa League is the key to bridging the gap, that should be the footballing stepping stone. They need to distribute a far greater amount of CL money into it.

Agreed. Uefa is a single organisation. They should be able to distribute prize money as they feel fit. But instead they bow down to the pressure of the big clubs who want to keep it all for themselves.
