The NCAA found the right recipe.
The NCAA recipe is the equivalent of baseball playing nine and then having a home run derby or basketball rolling out the racks to let guys launch some 3s. Even if you think there is some merit to it being turn based the NCAA one needs tweaks.

Changing the overtime rules is a distraction from the real problem. Every rule change in the last 50 years has made it easier to move the ball and score points… but now the passing offenses are too good. Trying to stop them at the end of the game when they throw on almost every play is impossible. The Bucs blitzed on defense at the end and that didn’t work. The Bills sat way back on defense at the end and that didn’t work, either.

You have teams making counterintuitive and quite honestly insane decisions at the end of games. Like the Bengals a few weeks ago, passing on a go-ahead FG with a minute left to play and going for it because they knew they couldn’t afford to give Mahomes the ball back. It’s time for the league to do something and give the defenses a fighting chance again.

A shame I couldn't stay up for the whole game, I missed a cracker from the sounds of it. I hope the Bengals win but it looks like a Rams and Chiefs Superbowl which is depressing. Even the prospect of Kev melting down again wouldn't make me want the Rams to win

shame your bum chum Brady lost yesterday - hopefully thats the last we see of him

The Chiefs completely outplayed the Bengals in their previous encounter and would have won easily if not for some very suspicious officiating, and getting greedy with the blitz. The Bengals are very one dimensional.

Bit of a homophobic comment there Kev, reported.

I think Brady retiring would be a big loss to the game, best QB to have ever played and nobody will get close for a long time, maybe even ever. I'm sorry that you can't see that just because he obliterated the Chiefs last year, but I suppose it's one of many chips on your shoulder that make you behave this way

thats fine, just going back through a small selection of about 20 of your posts, and reporting them as well.

A coin flip is dumb.
Just do the OT coin flip as part of the pregame proceedings so that both teams know ahead of time what’s coming if the game ends in a tie and can strategize accordingly.

I’d be more on board with the idea of implementing the college rules if they forced the teams to start at midfield. Still wouldn’t be real football, but would at least force whoever ultimately wins to move the ball forward to do so. As it stands now in college, it’s possible to make a defensive stop, then run your FG unit onto the field on your first play and kick the winning FG.

That was some finish

Bills lost it in the last 13 seconds. Kick it in the field. Eat up more clock. They needed 2 plays to get to FG position and Bills could have ensured there was only time for 1.

I feel for Josh Allen. He was easily player of the match.

And FWIW, I would change the OT rules in play off football and give both teams a possession. If you can add 5 mins to the OT period, you can allow an extra possession. No one wants a game determined on a toss.

Not sure about that. At least I dont think he was better than Mahomes, who I find the slicker player in general. He's a really gutsy competitor ill give him that.

then you get an advantage when you kick off in overtime.

No matter what you do, winning the coin toss is going to give an advantage.

The current overtime rule was first implemented in the 2010 playoffs, but was extended to regular season games in 2012. Under these rules, there have been a total of 118 overtime games. This includes regular season and playoffs, and includes yesterday's games.

  • Wins by team that possesses the ball first: 59 (50%)
    • Of these wins, 23 were on an opening drive TD (39.0% of team with first possession wins, 19.5% overall overtime games)
  • Wins by team that possesses the ball second: 52 (44.1%)
  • Ties: 7 (5.9%)

Oh you are funny.

Ja'Marr Chase destroyed the Chiefs' secondary in the previous fixture. Nothing to do with officiating.

Now, I'm a Bengals fan but I would expect the Chiefs to win this time - apart from anything else the Titans just provided the blueprint for doing exactly that. The Bengals OLine is an utter mess and a decent four-man rush will beat the protection over and over, so if the Chiefs get an early lead and force Burrow to throw more they should win... IF they've done their film study on Chase (and Higgins and Uzomah) to address the fact he was wide open every play in the last fixture.

Outplayed. LOL.
