News of Ex Players

Pretty much every player at that level does it. Most just don't tell it publicly. Very few young players see Everton as their final goal.
Yes I watched it but thought he came across really and very different to the colder character we saw. Bellew was on too and they said the club refused to allow redknapp to do the penalty shoot out at Goodison? 😂 (which bellew, Richards and Yakubu did)

Good to know that while he was under contract with us he had his eye on a move somewhere else, great commitment Rom.
iirc he more or less stated his plan with Everton as a stepping stone from day 1.
Between that and telegraphing his intentions via the Belgian press every international, it’s no wonder he’s not remembered particularly warmly. That said I still think everyone was content when he left, only downside was our inability to spend the fee we got on an adequate replacement ☹️

I always got the feeling that the evening we rolled out Barkley for a press conference to announce him signing a 5 year deal, there had been a late hitch in a deal for Lukaku and having a press conference organized they rolled out Ross. We didn`t get the same Rom on the permanent deal as was here on loan, the low point being his pen miss at Wembley. Two downsides were not getting a good replacement and the fee going towards bringing in several sub standard players on long deals.

“Even at Everton, when I said I didn’t want to sign a new contract, it was a problem. ‘Why should I leave?’, they said. Why should I miss the chance to play in the Champions League somewhere else? I had two clubs to go to that summer and I chose one because I wanted to play in the Champions League and win trophies. What’s the problem with wanting to win trophies? If someone else is doing it, there’s no problem.”

He regularly spoke about wanting to play in champs league etc when away on international duty (same as Onana did more recently). I think we hoped we would get there but Martinez then took us backwards after that initial season. If he had kept us up in the European places, maybe Lukaku stays.

I’m surprised he gave us that last season to be honest and hadn’t handed in a transfer request based on finishing bottom half and not being in Europe for 2 years at that point.

I’m not sure about that. He improved his goal scoring every year he was with us: 16, 20, 25, 26

Rom is just a bit of a bellend. He’s a good player but as a bloke he’s a bit of a tit. I wouldn’t imagine the fans of any of the clubs he’s played for like him that much

Good to see Schumacker starting well for Bolton. He was looking like he was starting his managerial career well at Plymouth but his move to Stoke didn`t turn out well and could have made it tough to get back in with a good job.
