News of Ex Players

James Beattie is director of football at 7th tier AFC Totton?!? Has Charlie Austin playing there which is mad. Probably did us a favour as Austin will DEFINITELY have been on Dyche’s shortlist last summer.

Also staggering that it’s now just over 20 years since we signed Beattie 😳. Time flies kids.

Wow. I was at the cup game at Hillsborough the night it was confirmed we’d swapped him for Jagielka. Doesn’t seem that long ago.

….a proper footballer, certainly one of my all-time favourites;

Lukaku finding a reason to whine about some sort of problem when he left….. (will need to translate)

Thought he pretty much went with everyone’s well wishes, yes there was whatever was said between Mosh and Raiola about ‘divine intervention’ in his departure, but hardly something id expect him to hold a grudge over.

“Even at Everton, when I said I didn’t want to sign a new contract, it was a problem. ‘Why should I leave?’, they said. Why should I miss the chance to play in the Champions League somewhere else? I had two clubs to go to that summer and I chose one because I wanted to play in the Champions League and win trophies. What’s the problem with wanting to win trophies? If someone else is doing it, there’s no problem.”

Good to know that while he was under contract with us he had his eye on a move somewhere else, great commitment Rom.

Yeah, famously professional footballers are loyal to a fault and never agitate for moves that will help give them the best chance of tangible accolades in a short career.

Pretty much every player at that level does it. Most just don't tell it publicly. Very few young players see Everton as their final goal.
That's why the likes of Jagielka, Baines, Cahill, Ferguson, and even Beto will always be held in higher regard than the more talented players that always give if the impression that they think they are bigger than this club.
