Alcaraz is definitely a Martinez type player...Jags, Distin are not. McGeady should be, but isn't. Barkley is hyped as a future world class player but at his age, is not a tenth as good as Rooney was at 16.His future could even go a bit Rodwell. Souness today was spot on. To play out from the back you have to have the players to do it. I said this in the Southampton match thread. It will take more time to get the right players in every position. Martinez needs to mix it ...clear the lines when necessary, but ensure that the ball doesn't come straight back at us. Bright spots today...Two good goals, and Kone looks like a player.

We are not too good to go down and thats something like 7 losses in 9 games including the europa league.

Eto = too many Hollywood balls when a simple pass to the wing was an easy option did it all of the game never a midfielder or a behind the striker player either!

I think we are in big big trouble, Wimbledon trouble, Coventry trouble and it's down to our tactics and perhaps the players relationship with the manager

Need to get behind Martinez and the team not rip them in my opinion.
Massively low on confidence......and no strength. That's the key for me.....we have no real hard hitters when the going gets tough. Cissokoh and Tiote kicked everything that moved whereas Barry, Barkley etc mis kicked everything.

Mistakes, mistakes, mistakes......no end to them.

Please explain to me how we as fans can in any relevant way get behind the team? Vocal support is irrelevant. If it wasn't we'd be unbeaten away from home this season. So all supporters can do is show unhappiness with things, in whichever way they choose.

I know he did but why is he doing it now? In a game we need to win to stop the rot he moves our left back to midfield. Why? Do the basics right and we can get points. Him moving players makes more problems. Do it in a cup game or at the end of the season when we are sorted but not in a game we need to win. It's ludicrous management it really is.

Martinez said a few days ago that the results against Newcastle (and Hull) would be "pivotal" for our season.

Whatever your views on the guy, it seems a crazy thing to have said in the light of our ongoing crap form. He has very much put himself out into the firing line given today's poor display (yet again).

Totally depends on what we do in January and if we can turn it around.

Personally we need to drop Barry. He's too slow and IMO all our problems stem from there.

We also need to stop playing Eto'o unless its for the last few mins as a forward but Kone is far ahead of him in my opinion.

Our centerbacks are poor but they're also being left hopelessly exposed. We need to get Jags and Stones fit.

Yes, it is to a point. Martinez wants us to play from the back, constantly. The players are drilled to play from the back regardless of the amount of opponents around.

This issue has been the issue all season, which i've said, opponents are now pressing us so high and forcing us into mistakes. Martinez cannot, or will not, change this, until he does we will always be forced into errors.

Newcastle didn't press us high up today, we just gave the fkin ball away anyway!

McGeady passing the ball straight to a Newcastle player when a blue was open right newr him, and Barkley miscuing a simple clearance is his fault ? Don't think so. It's eleven professional football players ffs, they need to look at themselves as much as anybody else.

So, you think it was right that Barkley is brought on to do McCarthy's job? I don't, not when Besic is available. We all know that Barkley is a mistake waiting to happen and shouldn't be asked to play anywhere near our last line of defence. I posted this sentiment well before KO by the way.
