New Shirt Sponsor

You didn’t like Chang either then? Cool, me neither.
I think that’s a perfectly understandable perspective.

People have differing life experiences that colour what they deem acceptable and what they don’t.

I’m not going to tell someone affected by alcoholism that Chang was an acceptable sponsor anymore than I’m going to tell someone affected by gambling addiction that Sport Pesa, Stake or CMC are acceptable sponsors.

I don’t know much about CMC, but if more than two-thirds of customers lose money on their bets investments with them, I do know I don’t feel great about them being on our shirt.

The current Stake deal worked out at about £10M (and that's probably an inflated figure btw and is nearer £8M) per annum.

That's a third (or less) of the cash we spent on a dud like Barry.

Let's not start believing that we cant do without £10M per season to make a massive statement that brings us a shed load of positive publicity. If we cant operate effectively without another £8M-£10M per year we really shouldn't be in business as a PL club...not if we have any real ambitions.
There's no denying the shocking truth in that

Had to look at what s**e he spouted and he couldn't be more wrong. It doesn't work like that at all. If Barry actually runs his contract down with us (he is not sold) that sum needs to be split over the course of that time. It's ridiculous to think all the cost is just on his first season.
I was looking at the maths, that's all. One is a third of the other. I'm well aware that the sponsorship is each year and the transfer fee is only once.

Agreed. And if you take the point at it's base level its incredibly simplistic.

So Player A (in this case Barry) looks at this moment to be not a great investment at £25m. Lets just not buy any more duds, not bother with £8-10mil a year sponsorship, and we will be £15mil up on the deal, with a load of positive publicity for not having a sponsor!!

Now, I'm not convinced by Barry at all, but ignoring for a moment that he has directly contributed to a few wins this season, and the league is incredibly tight (8th can turn to 13th very quickly, and as we know, 13th can subsequently change to 17/18th just as quick)

Next, and most importantly, the "positive publicity" wouldn't resonate whatsoever outside of Evertonian circles. Chelsea just spent ages without a sponsor and nobody cared. Ok, it wasn't a grand gesture on their part, they were stuck for a deal on their terms. Same with the Spurs stadium name. But the point stands, nobody cared, and when Spurs finally get round to calling it the "Amstrad Arena" or whatever, nobody outside Spurs fans will care beyond the initial headline. So a club that has barely clung on the last few years, should give everyone else a £8m a year head start for one throwaway headline??

And where do you draw the line at this noble attitude?

"Kits are too expensive" - true, tell you what, we gave Seamus another year and he can barely lace up his boots now. Lets not do that again, save the money, and knock £15 off the kids shirts.

"Tickets a bit pricey" - Yeah, wasn't much point in Aznou was there? Tell you what, just stick with Myko, he is ok and solid (He really isn't btw) we won't do that again, we will knock the £10mil in future off everyone's ticket cost

"£12 for chicken strips? £7 a pint????" - Fair point mate, we shouldn't have bothered with Dibling. Could have stuck that money behind the bar for you lot couldn't we? Sorry

I'm not for one second suggesting there isn't a lot that can be said regarding the over commercialising of football fans. I'm also not suggesting that Everton get, or have got every commercial decision right. But given that there is a level of commercial reality the club has to face I'm very pleased that certain people are nowhere near the running of the club and just post nonsense on forums
