There's too much focus getting put on our academy in the recruitment thinking here.

The academy is all important but if we get to the level we want to be then it's not going to be able to contribute much anyway.

If there's players in there better than what we have they'll always get there chance.

The managers we've been linked with have top class squads at there disposal, it takes a special academy kid to break into them and at City, Real or Chelsea, it's quite possible the likes of Stones or Barkley just would not of been good enough to break in, never mind many of the kids we have now.

Chelsea have cleared at youth level for years domestically and Europe, they are a league above our 18s but they still don't have kids to push out the likes of Hazard, Costa & Terry cause were talking the elite here. If we ant to get back in to the big time, we can't rely on our academy to do it for us, just hope they contribute along the way.

How much did Jose spend at Inter, does anyone know??

As far as I can remember it wasn't as much as people would have us believe and he made them European Champions.

That is the dominant way of doing it for the top teams, but Barcalona are an example of doing it a bit differently. IF we get Real Madrid investment (which is not an impossibility over the next 5 years given Moshiri's contacts) then it's different, but in the short term I think it would be advantageous to utilise our academy which has always done quite well.

That being said, our desire to do that doesn't outweigh the ability of Mourinho if he would come.

Mourinho would terrify me, due to his wages and temprament. What if it turned sour and we had to pay him off? He could bankrupt us. Moshiri, whilst being a very wealthy man is not as wealthy as Abramovich and there is a limit in what he would put into the club.

In order of preference:

Pellegrini
de Boer
Koeman

Can't see the fit with Jose personally. The order is based on the least amount of failures they have had as a manager. Koeman's managerial history beyond Southampton is one disaster after another.

at some point all these merry-go-round managers all begin to meld into one and look the same.

i mean, is that even Gary Megson, Alex McLeish or Steve McClaren/Coppell?

True.

But some fellows seem to be saying the Dutch league is to large a leap to the EPL.......Koeman proves it is not.

And if a manager over there is good enough then he will give a good account of himself here.

We might just have to suck it and see.

aye, that's what I mean Khal...you've got some success stories and some not so much.

Ranieri proves one thing: there's just no way of knowing and as you say we might as well just suck it up and see which end it comes out of.

We've done the young talented (supposedly) manager, his name was Roberto Martinez. I don't want a manager coming to learn their trade and make mistakes at Everton before they go on to a bigger club the finished article. We should be looking to appoint the real deal now, a proven winner who doesn't need to learn what it takes to win things and how o teach defenders to defend, that's why I'd swerve De Boer and move heaven and earth for Jose or Pellegrini.

Mourinho needs to be removed from poll. Redshite esque linking ourselves to managers we have no chance of getting.

I'd love Mourinho but still can't see it.

Realistically, I want us to be going all out for Koeman. Pellegrini looks all set for Milan, and Koeman for me has done a brilliant job at Southampton.

The question would be whether he would take what is arguably a sideways step at this moment in time (objectively speaking, not based on size of club etc.)

De Boer seems the most likely candidate at the moment, though his lack of Prem experience is the worry for me.

BBC yesterday.

Manchester Evening News on delay of deal : http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...l-news/man-utd-news-mourinho-manager-11286998
