To be fair I understand the case against Jose, with the counter-argument in brackets:

- leaves clubs with a sour taste in the aftermath (excluding Inter and first stint with Chelsea).
- needs big money to fund success (well, we have that now)
- would cost about 5 times as much as Martinez (see above)
- has a mixed record in transfer market (let's be fair, so does everyone else)
- doesn't much develop the youth (that's Unsworth's job anyway)
- fell out with Rom (they'll get over it I'm sure)

I agree. Mourinho is not a natural fit for Everton and certainly not what Everton has been allowed to become. he has always been a short term manager. I think fans are going to have to get over the idea we have managers for 10 years. I don't expect any new manager we get next (with the exception of De Boer) to be with us longer than 3 years. They will either be moved on for not hitting targets, we will move beyond what they can deliver, or they will deliver it and will look for a better job.

In many ways Everton are an underdog. We have the 9th highest wage bill. We have had no real investment in the squad to speak of until a couple of years back. That was always balanced against a strong youth system. Therefore a manager that specialises in recruiting expensive older players and organising them over one that develops younger players would not make sense.

I do wonder how much that will change though. I see our revenues being driven up, especially if we were to build a new Stadium. We have a very wealthy owner who can give us that direction.

Either way, Mourinho may not be a good fit for Everton, but he is such a good manager he overcomes that. De Boer is a more natural fit and would relish working with our young players and developing our academy. I'd be happy with either of them for different reasons.

Mourinho would be great, but whoever it ends up being hopefully they get him in soon to start making some changes.

There's too much focus getting put on our academy in the recruitment thinking here.

The academy is all important but if we get to the level we want to be then it's not going to be able to contribute much anyway.

If there's players in there better than what we have they'll always get there chance.

The managers we've been linked with have top class squads at there disposal, it takes a special academy kid to break into them and at City, Real or Chelsea, it's quite possible the likes of Stones or Barkley just would not of been good enough to break in, never mind many of the kids we have now.

Chelsea have cleared at youth level for years domestically and Europe, they are a league above our 18s but they still don't have kids to push out the likes of Hazard, Costa & Terry cause were talking the elite here. If we ant to get back in to the big time, we can't rely on our academy to do it for us, just hope they contribute along the way.

How much did Jose spend at Inter, does anyone know??

As far as I can remember it wasn't as much as people would have us believe and he made them European Champions.

Yes, so did Martin Jol, Steve McClaren and Advocaat.

True.

But some fellows seem to be saying the Dutch league is to large a leap to the EPL.......Koeman proves it is not.

And if a manager over there is good enough then he will give a good account of himself here.

We might just have to suck it and see.
