New Healthy Start

Following on from my fruit for breakfast thread which was a huge hit, bit of a advice thread for me this one, any tips people know and advice for the average lazy person to get healthier without having to do much so to speak.

I'm eating slightly better now, and plan to start slimming world meals next monday. So will be eating meals designed to help you lose weight, healthier options etc. I'm not cutting out all bad things and just eating lettuce, i have 2 kids, it isn't realistic so just going out my way to eat fruit for breakfast (which i'm on my third week of btw) and eating better elsewhere just to cut out as many bad things rather than all bad things.

Exercise i used to get none whatsoever. Now i am walking a fair bit more. Walked round kenny and edge hill last week, walked from old swan home last night and walked for about 20 minutes or so this morning before i got on the bus. Raised my heart rate / broke a sweat doing it. So yeah, i'm trying to be a bit more active. I'm not going the gym, and i won't start going for a run but this is me going out my way to do something extra. Combining it with pokemon go as well, so walking is hatching the eggs over the distance, so a kind of distance measurer so to speak. I have been walking round town on my dinner as well rather than doing nothing so distance covered is much bigger than i was a week or so ago

So yeah, any tips i should follow? I'm not trying to be super healthy so if i want pasta or a packet of crisps then i'm not going to shirk in horror at them. Just avoid eating them when i can. going out my way for a bit more exercise as well. A few people have noticed i have lost weight just doing the fruit thing alone, although i wonder if they are hollow compliments to encourage me. Who knows? Either way, got my mind set on it at the minute so any little tips will be great.

oh and plan to start having @Bryan smoothie for breakfast as well.

On the right track mate, but really it is about cutting down on the portions, remembe a body still needs carbohydrate - potato etc but cut out the sugar.

On a good diet ,how many grams of carbs and sugar should you try and stick to a day . I'm usually around 200g carbs 50-60 g sugar . That's with at least 10km walking and an hour to 90 min of cardio in the gym a day

Surely 4 litres is way too much. Can't you end up making yourself really ill by drinking too much water? Something about watering down the sodium levels in your body too much.

"The health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon." the NHS recommends this aswell for a sedentary lifestyle (desk job doing little or no exercise). Active lifestyle you need to up intake considerably otherwise your body holds onto more water because you sweat more.

However thats what a normal body needs to stay hydrated, one which isn't doing exercise therefore sweating and losing more fluid from your system. I tried 2 litres a day, it done nothing, my mate who is a PT told me to up it and the jiggley fat (not hard fat) fell off extremely quick.

Most larger people when they start working out and lose weight its water weight (water retention)

Day 3 update.

Blitzing this workout thing. 3 in a row!

Done a cardiovascular session for half an hour the best I could after my legs felt dead after 2 minutes. Can fly through jumping jacks though which is boss.

Done a ddp yoga session as well. Starting to improve at thst although not flexible enough just yet. Getting stronger though tiny bit by bit.

So hopefully burned a few hundred off tonight as well . Had a quick go at marine corps do might give that a go another night.

Think the plan this weekend is to get a set of scales as suggested and to buy more fruit in to keep up with the fruit for breakfast at home. Can eat smaller lunches as well so scrambled egg on toast for dinner and stuff rather than being limited right now.

Week after i'm buying a load of veg in, making some nice salads and get chicken and fish and start them off as my lunches. Hitting 1 of my 5 a day and adding protein (again as suggested) and dropping carbs from my lunches.

Do you know how much protien/carbs/fats you should have a day? While i dont agree with eating whatever to fit you macros (even though it works if not totally healthy) - start here, it'll tell you how many calories you should consume each day, and then tailor it to what you want in terms of fatloss/muscle growth etc etc

i know roughly my allowance a day .I use that my fitness pal as well . I'll have a read of that mate cheers

My fitness pal was widely out for me, it was saying i should eat something like 1600 cals to maintain my weight, whereas to maintain i eat about 2500 cals, to lose weight i usually drop down to about 1900 cals a day, and to build muscle i normally up it to 3100.

When eating healthy, thats a horrible amount of food to eat hahahahaha.

That link will give you the amount of carbs, fats, and protein you should have a day! Pay close attention to the fats, people try to go as low fat as possible, but don't understand the benefits of having healthy fats in the diet!!

yeah MFP is out if you use it like that defo. I only use it for counting calories and carbs protein etc as a rough guide tbh . Those apps defo shouldn't be followed to a T.

Its good for meal tracking mate so you know how much cals and that your having each day - good tracking for that, but in terms of following what they recommend i would stay clear like you say!
